JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Department Head of Respiratory Medicine and the designated Medical Director, the respirologist focuses on the study of the respiratory system and the diagnosis, management and prevention of respiratory diseases.
The respirologist provides care to patients presenting respiratory symptoms or lung diseases of all origins, including chronic, uncomplicated or complex respiratory conditions and respiratory failure. This may include patients with an illness involving the upper or lower respiratory tract, lung parenchyma, pleura, mediastinum or lung circulation, or sleep disorders and respiratory drive. The respirologist is responsible for the assessment, management and longitudinal care of patients presenting respiratory system illnesses, which includes primary and secondary prevention, treatment and pulmonary rehabilitation. The respirologist performs procedures and interprets the results obtained through the diagnostic methods of the subspecialty. The respirologist prescribes ventilatory support, oxygen therapy and other treatments that facilitate breathing and conducts follow-up. From preventive care to management of terminal lung diseases, the respirologist treats patients throughout the evolution of their condition, regardless of its severity. Within society, the respirologist promotes lung health.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree from a recognized medical school and residency granting a licence in internal medicine;
- A recognized medical school is a school that meets the following criterion:
- Accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) or the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) (in the United States);
OR
- Listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with a note for Canada under the Sponsor Notes tab;
- Recognized certification in respiratory medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada;
- Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of New Brunswick;
- Active membership in the Canadian Medical Protective Association or equivalent liability insurance association;
- Membership in the New Brunswick Medical Society;
- Privileges with Vitalité Health Network;
- Registration with New Brunswick Medicare;
- One to three years’ experience will be considered an asset;
- Any other combination of relevant and equivalent training and experience may be taken into consideration;

NOTES:
- The salary for this position is fee-for-service.
- Moving expenses allowance.
