Product Owner – Advanced

Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid (3 days on-site per week)

Contract Length: 12 Months

Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day operation of RBC wealth Management’s global public web properties as a partner to global marketing teams. Tasks can include, but are not limited to platform readiness activities, issue solutioning, stakeholder management, digital content and campaign delivery.
  • Owns the responsibility for building the right product and to be the voice of the customer (e.g. external customer, internal operations user, etc.) to the team
  • To ensure optimal Feature delivery, the product owner collaborates with the product Manager to align to features and outcomes
  • Participate in sprint planning and owns the product backlog for a low-medium complexity product being developed by the team on behalf of the line of business they represent
  • Perform typical product owner duties on lower complexity initiatives, collaborate with a senior product owner on higher complexity initiatives in support of the design, development and delivery of their product
  • Success in this role is measured in terms of maximizing ROI and customer satisfaction
  • Developing product recommendations based on customer feedback, User experience (UX) interpretation of customer feedback, commercial/technical/legal assessments, and leveraging their own domain of experience
  • Ensuring the right product is built, creating user/customer value while meeting the needs of the LoB stakeholders for a product
  • Understanding and representing/conveying the vision to the scrum team
  • Understanding the strategy and product roadmap to ensure product backlog prioritization is in alignment with the roadmap timing of customer facing features/functionality
  • Supporting the creation of the strategy/roadmap that contributes to the product's revenue and profitability targets
  • Assisting the development of business cases
  • Identifying product opportunities and challenges and recommending expanding product offering to ensure competitive positioning
  • Refining and prioritizing the product backlog, including non-functional requirements, on a regular basis in collaboration with the team such that it mitigates operational/technical/financial risk, accelerates team learning, achieves expected outcomes and optimizes the value of the work performed
  • Preparing and maintaining the overall success of sprint planning for a product
  • Ensuring in advance that there are enough ready User Stories in the product backlog at all times and that the Product backlog is visible and transparent
  • Ensuring User stories are well formed; meet the “definition of ready”, detailed acceptance criteria, clear to all, etc.
  • This role is responsible for accepting User stories. Developing metrics and their rationale for measuring success of the solution (e.g. ROI), as well as the reporting methodology to track value realization
  • Evaluating business value achieved versus plan for the product and communicating outcomes to management
  • Working within fiscal budget parameters, taking into account organizational strategic themes and how they potentially influence the team backlog
  • Supporting the decision-making that sets the architectural direction or chooses the agreed technology infrastructure that will host the new business functionality for a product or product platform
  • Identifying business resources required for user acceptance testing (where needed) and post-implementation validation, working with the scrum master on the associated planning
  • Defining and maintaining the non-functional Requirements (NFRs) in collaboration with Soltion Architect, to help assure that the solution meets relevant standards and other system quality requirements
  • Identifying, executing, or enabling implementation of agile change management activities related to the Initiative

Must have skills:

  • 5-9 years of product management or agile development experience, two of which are in relevant product/service domain
  • Business experience, preferably within the financial industry and relevant line of business
  • Experience with the agile process
  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Strong time management and organization skills,
  • Advanced problem solving ability.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management,
