The Production Manager will oversee the day-to-day activities of the operation to meet production deadlines and provide leadership for the team members. The Production Manager drives the process to maximize profitable growth, provides premier customer service, develops a qualified workforce, and reduces operating costs and inventories through continuous improvements. This position reports to the Branch Manager. The ideal individual will need to be an effective communicator, build strong relationships, be able to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, be open to change, and ready for any challenge. Operating in a flat organization with a significant amount of autonomy, this position will require a strong “can do” attitude.

POSITION FUNCTIONS

  1. Manage and supervise production and shipping/receiving to ensure that all processes are executed safely and efficiently within budget and meet customer and company requirements.
  2. Ensure effective operation of the production facility to achieve production targets and changing customer requirements.
  3. Inventory management including effective and efficient inventory turn and cycle counts as required.
  4. Verify and ensure compliance with Worksafe BC regulations and bylaws, company policies, and procedures.
  5. Ensure implementation and evolution of safety procedures and policies.
  6. Ensure completion of safety and hazard assessments, quality checks, and daily/weekly preventative maintenance requirements.
  7. Ensure adequate staffing is available for optimal production.
  8. Ensure the effective use of overtime.
  9. Coaching and mentoring direct reports.
  10. Monitor and improve layout and workflow to optimize company assets, productivity, and improve customer satisfaction.
  11. Attend and conduct regular meetings as required.
  12. Identify and pursue the correction of production, safety, and quality problems.
  13. Schedule maintenance and other external resources.
  14. Conduct reviews and develop initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  15. Be involved in all aspects of building and equipment maintenance, upgrades, and replacement.
  16. Ongoing and annual evaluations/reviews to provide constructive feedback and identify improvement/training needs for production employees.
  17. Responsible for hiring, releasing, promoting, and disciplinary action for all production employees.
  18. Assist/recommend management in setting fair and equitable wages and benefits.
  19. Review time cards, approve overtime, and document all late starts and absences for proper attendance records.
  20. Ensure proper orientation and training of production staff.
  21. Complete all necessary reports and records related to production and safety as required.
  22. Keep current with ongoing changes and new technology and adapt accordingly.
  23. Ensure the safety of all employees, outside contractors, and visitors.
  24. Monitor production cost KPI’s, e.g., Man-hours per Ton and Waste %.
  25. Provide frequent feedback to Management regarding important Production, Safety, and Maintenance issues.
  26. Other duties as assigned or necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. A minimum of 5 years of management experience in production/manufacturing.
  2. Appropriate credentials and certifications.
  3. Rebar fabricating experience would be an asset.
  4. Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  5. Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing.
  6. Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.
  7. Strong management, delegation, planning, and leadership skills.
  8. Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances, and legislation.
  9. Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  10. Excellent time management and project management skills.
  11. High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  12. Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
  13. Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
  14. Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
  15. Able to work well under pressure.
  16. Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
