Royal City Musical Theatre (RCMT) is a volunteer-led organization that brings theatre professionals, emerging talent, and volunteers together in an inspiring environment to produce exceptional musical theatre that engages our community. Each year we welcome more than 10,000 audience members to the Massey Theatre located on the traditional and unceded territories of the Halkomelem speaking and Coast Salish peoples including the ʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and qiqéyt (Qayqayt) First Nations known as New Westminster, BC.

We are currently seeking a part-time Producer for a one-year term.

Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, our Producer will be responsible for the overall management of our 2025 production, including marketing and company administration, and be a central part of strategic planning initiatives. An impactful and communicative leader, the Producer will be accountable to and collaborate with the Artistic Director and Board of Directors and oversee the creative and production teams, be the main point-of-contact with the Massey Theatre Society, and oversight of contracted personnel and artists. The successful candidate will employ an equity, diversity and inclusion (ED&I) and reconciliation lens to the overall production and its operations.

At the end of this one-year term, RCMT will re-evaluate the position and welcome a discussion about a long-term contract with the Society.

Responsibilities:

Develop, maintain and manage the production schedule.

Organize and manage the audition process.

Budget: In coordination with the Artistic Director & Board of Directors, develop and adhere to a results-driven production budget and Work with all departments to ensure the budget is maintained.

Produce and maintain purchase orders in tandem with accounts payable schedule.

Help to address and resolve human resource issues including contract workers and volunteers.

Liaise with the entire production team to ensure clear and transparent communication with all parties.

Facilitate and attends regular production meetings with the entire Production Team.

Liaise with rehearsal and performance venue representatives.

Contract Administration: Negotiate and produce all contracts (Production Team, Designers, performers) and work together with the Finance Committee to create payment and cash flow schedules that work with cash flow.

Develop and execute all production related contracts for union and non-union artists and collaborators.

Collaborates with various committees of the RCMT Board, including but not limited to: Finance, Fundraising, Production and Marketing.

Attend Board and Board Committee meetings; update the Board on production status, schedule board meetings and provide updates and direction to the board as necessary.

Create and maintain a safe and positive environment where all members of the production are treated respectfully.

Provide a written post-production report with recommendations to the Board.

Maintain a complete file documenting all communications and correspondence.

Work with the Board to ensure all documents and tool resources related to RCMT (Organizational structure, roles/responsibilities, meeting agendas/minutes, fundraising initiatives, complete contact lists) are updated and distributed as needed.

Manages contract employees and provides ultimate oversight and leadership with regards to publicity and marketing including contract workers and the RCMT Marketing Committee.

Work with a digital marketing representative to oversee all digital content (the website, and social media feeds, and E-Blasts) in order to maximize awareness of the company and production.

Qualifications:

Assets & Experience

Experience with theatre production and management, particularly with the specific needs of musical theatre.

Post-secondary or relevant experience in theatre, music, dance and/or arts administration.

Knowledge of industry associations and their respective agreements, specifically CAEA / ADC.

Experience creating and executing contracts for workers who fall outside of established unions and associations.

Knowledge and appreciation of the musical theatre community in Vancouver.

Experience working with a board and board development

Experience developing and working with sponsors

Ability to work with the graphic designer to create dynamic content (visual and written) for various digital platforms

Experience with grant-writing

Experience with licensing agents

A history of successful theatre production is a plus

How to Apply:

Hours of Work

Hours of work will be scheduled as needed and are very flexible. As we get closer to show time, the number of hours will increase. Though expect roughly 8-10 hours per week of work based on experience. The Producer will keep a log of hours worked and submit it monthly to the Board of Directors.
