Our client is a not for profit charity embarking on an exciting landmark capital expansion. They have partnered with EIO Solutions to help seek a Manager of Library Services that is passionate about their vision of creating a dynamic hub for plant centered learning, conservation and research.

We are looking for someone who is not afraid to think outside the box, detail oriented and developing and delivering programs to engage the community. Reporting to the Director of Learning, the Manager of Library Services will help build a welcoming, inclusive and diverse learning place. This includes oversight of the Library including collections development and maintenance, financial and grant reporting, digital asset management, developing and delivering programs to engage the community and volunteer management of the library’s dedicated volunteer team.

Job Scope:

  • Work with the Director, Learning to advance the position of the library as a vital resource for the garden’s staff, members, volunteers and visitors.
  • Develops, maintains and expands the library’s collections and secures appropriate online databases and products.
  • Develops and follows existing collection policies to guide accessions and deaccessions of books and periodicals.
  • Develop and lead library programs to increase library engagement with members and visitors.
  • Establishes partnerships with other libraries to enhance the Garden’s reach and services.
  • Provides reference and research services to staff, members, volunteers and visitors.
  • Administers the library catalog/circulation automation systems (Koha ILS) and oversees imports of new members into Koha.
  • Facilitates public interface with Koha, implementing orientation and training to volunteers and library users.
  • Develops and maintains the company's Digital Asset Management System for image, video and other digital assets.
  • Maintains the institutional archives and enhances organization knowledge management.
  • Ensures the library maintains up to date technologies, practices and procedures.
  • With the support of the Head of Volunteer Services, recruits, trains and supervises the library volunteers in the areas of circulation, collections management, cataloging, research and archives maintenance.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates student interns.
  • Supports the development and adherence to the annual budget for the library and interpretation programs.
  • Collects data and prepares grant reports. Assists with grant research as required writing.
  • Tracks and manages library statistics and prepares monthly and annual reports on the use of the library.
  • Promotes the library through social media, highlighting new books in company’s e-news and Trellis magazine.
  • Support other educational programming opportunities as required.
Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years experience of library experience, preferably in a special library.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Collections development and cataloging and/or archival processing experience.
  • A sound knowledge of current and emerging practices and trends in the use and integration of technology to deliver information resources and services.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft office and database applications (ie Koha ILS).
  • Gardening and scientific botanical knowledge are an asset.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, when necessary.
