Roles and Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for incident management, including prevention (e.g. hazard assessments and management), first response and corrective action.
  2. Also responsible for communicating any incidents to Corporate Office.
  3. Immediately report any unsafe acts, conditions or accidents to management.
  4. Monitor and provide direction with the start-up and shut-down of sites.
  5. Audit areas to ensure compliance of Company standards.
  6. Manage preventative programs in line with legislation and Company requirements, e.g. fire management.
  7. Identify improvement opportunity by monitoring workplace injuries and incidents and develop action plans.
  8. Responsible for the management of records and documentation related to OHS&E within the division.
  9. Assist in the management of the Drug and Alcohol Program as required for testing and post-incident situations.
  10. Send monthly statistics to Senior Management and Corporate Office (mileage, orientations etc.).
  11. Assist with inspections for fire prevention equipment and other safety and first aid supplies.
Policies and Procedures
  1. Ensure accuracy and relevance with continuous improvement through review and development of policies and procedures.
  2. Ensure awareness, engagement and compliance of employees and managers.
Administration
  1. Support the safety team with administrative duties.
  2. Track training certificates and metrics.
  3. Prepare reports or special project data.
  4. Assist the administration of the Corporate Vehicle Program including reviewing driver’s abstracts and traffic violations.
  5. Assist in maintaining COR certification.
  6. Assist in upkeep of third-party auditing systems.
  7. Manage the Sub-Contractor safety program documentation.
Training
  1. Conduct new employee orientation, including reviewing company policies and procedures.
  2. Conduct gap analysis, organize training, conduct training and continually update training matrix.
  3. Chair safety committee meetings monthly. Minutes and agenda.
Other Responsibilities
  1. Effectively communicate and coordinate safety issues/dialogues with government agencies, medical representatives etc.
  2. Maintain confidentiality in dealing with employee records and business information.
  3. Maintain knowledge of all applicable OHS, CSA, ANSI, OSHA standards and administrative practices.
  4. Ensure compliance to laws and regulations at Federal, Provincial and Municipal as well as Corporate levels.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
  1. Professional, approachable and excellent customer service skills.
  2. Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
  3. Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  4. Strong oral and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to engage and influence individuals.
  6. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  7. Extensive knowledge of relevant governmental regulations.
  8. Understanding of practical systems and operational business aspects.
Required Experience
  1. Completion of Grade 12 or GED.
  2. Completion of NCSO is considered an asset.
  3. Knowledge of OSHA requirements is considered an asset.
  4. Experience in a Health and Safety role, usually evidenced by 3 years of experience.
  5. Experience with compliance and management system audits is an asset.
  6. Knowledge in maintenance and service work is considered an asset.
  7. Experience working in the construction industry is an asset.
  8. Experience with ISN, Avetta, and Comply works. Must be certified as an auditor.
  9. Must have experience writing safety plans, and Emergency response plans.
Additional Requirements
  1. Class 5 Drivers license.
  2. Travel to various jobsites is required.
  3. Valid Passport and able to travel.
