Job Description

AECOM is hiring a Senior Structural Engineering Advisor - Highway Engineering in our Victoria office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervise complete structural design package including drawings, quantities, contract documents and cost estimates.
  • Project manage structural design projects from planning through design and construction.
  • Lead proposals and teaming for structural design, assessment and inspections assignments.
  • Provide or assist with design criteria, intent, constructability reviews, and construction staging for multi-modal, small to large scale, highway infrastructure projects.
  • Lead and assist with the development of project scope, schedule, and budget alongside project manager and other team members.
  • Mentor others for field reviews and/or coordinate site construction activities ensuring compliance with contract documents and design intents.
  • Develop or assist with project specific design specification and criteria including use of CAD and other software.
  • Organize and lead project meetings with client.
  • Assist with the preparation of regulatory requirements, permits, environmental assessments and stakeholder consultation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring for junior staff.
  • Develop and train others in the field of structural designs per provincial standards.
  • Prepare or assist with design and construction status reports for client and project teams.
  • Leads technical client relationships and plays a major role in selling and support efforts to grow AECOM's technical expertise.
  • Ability to lead a team of professionals, as well as liaise with clients and subconsultants.
  • Propose opportunities and assist with business development and highway engineering team building in BC.
  • Implement corporate policies related to quality management and sustainable legacies.
  • Supporting AECOM’s vision, values and key business development priorities.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Civil engineering + 10 years experience in transportation infrastructure design OR Technical Diploma + 12 years relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Computer Aided Engineering Design and/or Drafting Technology.
  • Certified with Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia.
  • Experienced in planning and managing scope and schedule for structural engineering design projects.
  • Experienced with the applications of BC Provincial Standard Specifications, BC Bridge Standards and Procedures and Supplement to Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC).
  • Familiarity with Master Municipal Construction Documents and BC Building Codes will be an asset.
  • Ability to interpret application of Motor Vehicle and Transportation Acts will be an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and interpreting highway engineering policies, practices, procedures, standards, and regulations in BC.
