ROLE:

The Senior/Lead Engineer will be experienced in low and medium voltage design, testing and support efforts within Energy and Renewables industry. This position will have overall responsibility for the delivery of electrical scope associated with project efforts within our Electrical Engineering Team meeting the expectations of the project, schedule and customer.

The Senior/Lead Engineer will function both independently engaging on various project related design and support efforts as well as working as part of a comprehensive team with other technical staff, Project Managers and customers. The individual within this role will be able to adapt to various situations quickly while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. The individual will possess strong trouble shooting abilities and be able to formulate comprehensive strategies for resolving design challenges presented.

AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

The Senior/Lead Engineer will be responsible for project execution including:

  1. Under the direction of the Project Manager, participate in or lead the technical design and implementation for projects.
  2. Develop design basis documents, specifications, cost estimates, and scopes of work.
  3. Complete and/or lead, as required, equipment specification and sizing, power system simulation, area classification, cable tray designs, voltage drop calculations, conductor sizing, control/marshaling panel designs, I/O schematics, power distribution, field junction boxes, cable schedules, etc.
  4. Prepare electrical construction bid documents, CWP’s and EWP’s.
  5. In coordination with Corporate Procurement, select equipment vendors and procure equipment.
  6. Interface with customers and vendors on technical issues.
  7. Produce or lead the production of detailed design documentation that meet the technical and quality standards of the project requirements.
  8. Participate in acceptance testing and ensure deficiencies are addressed.
  9. Support proposal development and participate in customer presentations as required.
  10. Protection and control system design and specification.
  11. Develop protection philosophies.
  12. Perform protection coordination studies, load flow, Short Circuit Analysis, Relay Coordination, and Arc Flash Studies in ETAP.
  13. Prepare technical reports.
  14. Programming of relay files in accordance with logic diagrams and protection settings established with the protection coordination study – considered an asset.
  15. Execute projects based on NEC, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, IEEE and other international codes and standards.
  16. Assist project managers in the planning, control, and technical coordination of projects.
  17. Provide guidance and training to junior and intermediate engineers.
  18. May provide work direction to other project team members.
Qualification Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  1. Bachelors in Engineering in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  2. A minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical engineering projects with at least 10 years in a Senior or Lead role.
  3. Experience making technical and commercial/business decisions.
  4. Experience using Microsoft Office suite of tools.
  5. Strong command of the English language (both written and verbal).
  6. Ability to develop and maintain strong personal relationships.
  7. Working knowledge of the Oil & Gas and Electrical Utility marketplace.
  8. Experience with working on multiple projects concurrently.
  9. Effective organization and team coordination skills.
  10. Able to travel throughout Western Canada (Travel requirement of 10 – 20%).
  11. Substation project experience is an asset.
