The primary role of the Data Analyst, Internal Audit is to identify, design and develop data analytics to support audit activities of the Internal Audit team. This includes maintaining an effective system of data analytics and models which provide enhanced insight into risks and controls. The role also involves establishing efficient and automated means to analyze and test large volumes of data for outliers, anomalies, patterns, and trends thereby helping to evaluate the design and effectiveness of controls. Additionally, the Data Analyst is responsible for creating repeatable data analytics to support continuous control monitoring programs.
Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Data Analytics - Internal Audit, the position requires the individual to support the following activities of the Corporate Audit & Advisory group (CAA):
- Contribute to engagements by executing data analysis scripts and data models designed to increase quality and efficiency, in accordance with latest industry standards and best practices.
- Extract, cleanse, and validate the integrity of data used for analysis and modeling.
- Analyze and interpret outcomes of data analysis scripts, review outcomes and make recommendations.
- Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytical solutions.
- Assist in developing and implementing predictive analytics processes.
- Develop data models to drive insights and report risks, fraud, anomalies, patterns, trends and issues that could impact the organization.
- Assist in developing and maintaining data analytics process and methodology.
- Identify and subsequently act on opportunities to analyze and visualize data.
- Develop data visualization reports (e.g. Power BI) to present information to various stakeholders.
- Participate in the development, improvement, and implementation of the department's data analytics roadmap.
- Collect, compile and perform detailed data analytics to support the annual audit planning process.
- Support the Internal Audit team as required, including participating in 52-109 testing, risk management activities and other compliance engagements.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in finance, computer science, business administration, or other related field.
- 3 + years of experience as a business or data analyst
- Strong analytical skills, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Creative problem solver who thinks strategically, is result oriented and attentive to details.
- Strong analytical mindset with a talent for solving complex problems and formulating recommendations.
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing concepts and tools (SQL, Python, Datamarts, Snowflake, Talend)
- Strong knowledge of data analytics concepts and tools (Power BI, Alteryx, Databricks, Dataiku, Jupyter Notebooks)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with ability to clearly articulate complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerQuery, Word, PowerPoint, Visio)
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of data mining, data validation, and data preparation
- Experience using standard statistical software such as R, SAS or other data mining programming tools is an asset
- Understanding of audit standards and practises and risk management would be considered an asset
- Experience working in an internal audit function and airline industry would be considered an asset
- Valid passport with ability to travel, domestically and internationally, sometimes on short notice.
