Project Manager
Reports to the Commericial Division Manager on all matters, the Project Manager oversees and directs all aspects of his/her assigned project(s). From the award of the project, through drafting and design, take off and breakdown, to production, delivery, and installation. The Project Manager ensures the project meets all schedules in a timely manner and within prescribed budgets. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Architectural Technology Construction Management or Engineering;
  • Project Management Professional Certification is an asset.


Years of Experience

  • Minimum 5+ years of construction experience

Working Conditions

  • Office setting and site visits;
  • Work environment requires wearing PPE for all site work and in certain other locations;
  • Full Health and Safety training required (Working at Heights, WHMIS)
  • Full Health and Safety standards on site; and
  • Flexible to work overtime as required.

Required Skills

  • Detail oriented with the ability to read architectural drawings;
  • Knowledgeable in the industry and knows about the products and systems;
  • Ability to act as a mentorship to Project Coordinators;
  • Ability to work on many projects that are large and complex;
  • Communication with coworkers daily by telephone, email and in person;
  • Discretion, judgement, and tact to handle confidential information;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Procore and any other internal software
  • Demonstrate State’s core values and work in a team environment; and
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.

Job Specific Duties

  • Study the project (scope of work, specifications, and other tender documents) and identify any discrepancies to ensure full accountability of the project;
  • Prepare the schedule showing milestone dates (critical path), i.e., shop drawing submittal date, material take off, and first delivery date;
  • Arrange meetings with the Drafter, FM, and Division Manager, as required, including:
    • Scope of Work meeting before shop drawing start;
    • Material Take-Off Meeting before ordering the material;
    • Kick-Off Meeting as early as first elevation has been measured; and
    • Special meeting deemed necessary due to new deisgn or new product;
  • Review shop drawings prior to sending to the engineer for approval;
  • Be proactive and check all conditions that will have potential issues in the future and provide solutions;
  • With the Department Manager ensure final door sizes and frit-glass information are given to purchasing ahead of time to avoid delay in delivery;
  • Prepare weekly and monthly project status updates;
  • Prepare CCO’s for review with Division Manager;
  • Access Procore to view deficiencies as required;
  • Fill in for other PMs’ in their absence;
  • Coordinate mock-up as required;
  • Request Field Manager and/or Site Superintendent to mark up shop drawings showing latest vent box, electrical, and lighting requirements including the physical sample. This is to happen before shop drawing submittal as part of milestone schedule;
  • Check breakdown and ensure parts are released per the production schedule with Associate Director, taking into consideration products with longer lead times;
  • Inform the Department Manager if schedule cannot be met due to certain issue(s);
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties, if necessary, to meet
  • deadlines;
  • Work closely with the Field Managers and other site staff to assist in resolving outstanding issues and to track schedule;
  • Attend, as required, scheduled consultant, coordination, and site meetings;
  • Work with the Associate Director, FM, PM and Operations to establish department standards;
  • Lead project team to meet project timeline and client’s requirement to complete project on-time and with project metrics;
  • Coordinate site deficiencies for FM to run through the shop and deliver to site;
  • Ensure breakdown meets production and installation schedule. Work with Associate Director to address any concerns;
  • Prepare and maintain 6 weeks look ahead schedule after shop drawing approval;
  • Work with Division Manager to improve cost, growth, and delivery;
  • Prepare information required for installer to quote job;
  • Work with Finance on Schedule of Values;
  • Represent SWC, as requested, in business with customers, consultants, contractors, and suppliers; and
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Division Manager.
