Purpose

The Control Systems Engineer/Technician plays a crucial role in the global fixed plant control team, focusing on sustaining and enhancing the availability, utilization, and integrity of industrial control systems across Newmont's global fixed plant assets. This role provides technical expertise for DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems, supporting site, regional, and central teams with configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance. The incumbent contributes to sustaining capital projects and standardization efforts, manages vendor relationships for upgrades and cybersecurity, and ensures adherence to change management processes. Additionally, the role involves mentoring and developing global fixed plant control personnel, staying abreast of industry best practices, and traveling extensively to collaborate with technical resources and global teams.

The Newmont Control Systems team, based in the Vancouver Regional office, is currently recruiting for a Control Systems Engineer/Technician, to work in a hybrid role, with a competitive base salary between $91,000.00 - $146,880 per annum. The awarded salary will be dependant on relevant experience, skills, and qualifications. The compensation package includes a comprehensive Benefits plan, Vacation allotment, RRSP with organizational matching, and a Travel accommodations as required.

The successful candidate will work up to a few days each week from the Vancouver, BC regional office. Domestic and international travel to different work sites will be required, as per the needs of the team.

Essential Duties

The individual in this role will:

  • Demonstrate proactive leadership and an overriding commitment to health, safety, environmental responsibility, and sustainable development and technical regulatory compliance.
  • Support site teams with technical challenges as the primary escalation pathway for control system hardware, software, communications, networking and operational technology issues
  • Execute and/or support major, minor or strategically significant control systems projects
  • Develop, mentor and coach site and regional fixed plant control staff
  • Support the site PCS/OT infrastructure, applications and cyber-security requirements
  • Provide input and continuous improvement into OT/control system architecture, design, etc.
  • Implement temporary and permanent change requests to ICS software / applications
  • Develop and maintain the FPC global skills and competencies framework for control systems, and audit annual skills assessments for all control system related competencies
  • Participate and present in industry forums to keep abreast of industry trends and benchmarks and promote Newmont profile across the mining industry,
  • Participate in the global process control community

Training & Experience

Role requirements include but are not limited to:

  • Electrical and/or instrumentation trade certificate at a minimum
  • Engineering degree would be an asset .
  • Additional qualifications in process control or control systems desirable

Experience:

  • At least 7 years of experience working with control systems in a related industry.
  • Mining Industry experience is a strong asset
  • Significant and demonstrable experience in at least one of the following systems:
    • Emerson DeltaV
    • Rockwell Control / Compact Logix PLCs and HMI
    • Experience with Schneider modicons
  • Knowledge and understanding of OsiSoft PI application suite desirable
  • Significant exposure and understanding of industrial Ethernet networks
  • Knowledge of industry best practices for industrial control systems

Skills and Competencies

  • Advanced PC skills and computer literacy
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • High attention to detail and effective communication
  • Ability to work effectively with site and broader control system teams
  • Bilingual English & Spanish an asset
  • Must have an valid Drivers license

The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ $91,800 - 146,880. This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience.
