Summary:

AGAT Laboratories is currently hiring for a Quality Assurance Specialist. This is a full-time permanent position that will work out of our Edmonton, AB location.

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring all quality metrics are met in the laboratory/region in which they work. To accomplish this goal, QA Specialists will have a disciplined work ethic, and a strong sense of duty which allows them to maintain their commitment to following through on tasks and assignments.

By following established policies and procedures, they are required to work at a faster-than-average pace while remaining focused on detailed, specialized work. In summary, the position requires attention to detail, a commitment to high standards of accuracy, and a strong commitment to completing tasks on time.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Comply with AGAT Policies, Quality Procedures, and ISO standards applicable to the Quality Assurance position.
  2. Lead proper implementation and oversight of the Quality Management System (QMS) by:
    1. Creating and communicating reports on QA/QC metrics to the management team.
    2. Providing training to staff.
    3. Performing internal audits.
    4. Participating in external assessments/audits with accreditation/registration bodies/clients.
    5. Perform scheduled verifications that all departments perform checks of balances, working weights and thermometers, pipets, etc.
    6. Participating in professional development and training.
  3. Provide assistance and support for the following:
    1. Investigation of client complaints and reporting of responses.
    2. Investigation of Internal Corrective Actions and ensure the remedy is effective.
    3. Review and updating of the measurement uncertainty data collected for technical methods.
    4. Writing, revision and control management of procedures and associated documents.
    5. Assist in the management of the external calibration program and laboratory proficiency testing activities.
    6. Implementing corporate standardized and regional policies and procedures.
    7. Development and validation of local technical methods.
  4. Be a strong proponent for risk-based thinking and improvement initiatives.
  5. Provide technical and advisory support on matters related to the QMS.
  6. Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the General Manager, Quality.
  7. Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  8. Report any unsafe condition(s) observed during the dispensation of their duties to the General Manager, Quality.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills and Experience:

  1. Minimum Science Technical Diploma, BSc, or equivalent experience.
  2. Minimum 2 years laboratory experience.
  3. Minimum 1-3 years Quality Assurance experience.
  4. Strong understanding of quality assurance and quality control programs (ISO 17025).
  5. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  6. Capable of working in an organized fashion to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  7. Experience managing complex projects and work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  8. Ability to conduct training sessions or presentations for large groups of employees or clients.
  9. Competent in reviewing analytical procedures and practices.
  10. Proficient in writing reports and work instructions that are clear, concise, and accurate.
  11. Confident in computer usage and applications.
  12. Petroleum lab experience an asset.

Work Environment:

  1. General office environment with some exposure to laboratory environment.
  2. Sitting for prolonged periods of time in an office setting.
  3. Compliance with established safety procedures and appropriate PPE.
  4. Manual dexterity is required.
  5. Exposure to excessive noise, dust and/or varying temperatures is rare.
  6. May require the ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.
