About the Role:
The Trauma Program nurtures connection and safety in the caregiver-child relationship after experiencing trauma. Children and youth may come into the program via one of three streams: the Outpatient Trauma Clinic, the Trauma and Attachment Group (TAG) or Consultative Services.
The Therapy Support Navigator will:
- Assist Mental Health Therapists in screening and assessment interviews, in order to develop a treatment plan.
- Manage assigned caseload.
- Engage in facility, school and/or home observations and prepare observation reports for Mental Health Therapists.
- Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to family members, guided by the treatment plan.
- Assist in group therapy facilitation, including set up and take down, observation and note taking as required.
- Develop and maintain a list of community resources in order to refer patients and families for additional mental health support.
- Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
- Completion of any of the following:
- Bachelor of social work;
- Bachelor of arts, majoring in psychology;
- Bachelor of education; or
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration.
- Relevant and practical experience in a child and adolescent mental health treatment setting.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development and the impact of trauma and/or mental illness on children’s development, health and well-being.
- Knowledge of and experience in working with caregivers with significant familial. intergenerational trauma and/or caregivers with a range of attachment styles.
- Experience in working with blended, adoptive, foster and kinship families is an asset.
- Experience supporting families to access appropriate crisis resources when needed.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid Class 5 operator’s license and access to transportation.
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
