Cowan Insurance Group is looking for a highly qualified Underwriter to join our Broker Services Team This role is reporting to the Director, Broker Services. The Underwriter is part of a team responsible for underwriting the personal and commercial accounts, including marine pleasure craft, self-storage, and high-risk residential programs. The incumbent will underwrite in accordance with the guidelines and rules applicable to the programs, provide quotes on new business, process renewals, policy changes and cancellations. In addition, the Underwriter will review coverages, products, and trends to aid in the development of products and offerings. As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for developing relationships with the broker networks, assisting management in the implementation of new programs, new systems, and new procedures. You will be involved in process and product improvement and documentation, program audits, annual program reviews, carrier relationship building, systems changes, and claims.

What you will bring:

  • RIBO license or ability to obtain.
  • Working towards CIP designation an asset.
  • Previous underwriting experience in PI or CI required.
  • Knowledge of various underwriting tools an asset such as BVS, etc.
  • Lloyds coverholder processes and bordereaux experience an asset.
  • Knowledge of boats and marine coverage would be an asset (either power or sail).
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • High level of self-motivation with ability to perform effectively independently.
  • Attention to detail with high organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze potential areas of improvement, efficiencies, and coverage/product opportunities.
  • Product and policy analysis capabilities.
  • Attention to detail and ability to process large volume of transactions accurately.
  • Excellent computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products.
