Enterprise Architect

We are looking for an Enterprise Architect for a 6-month contract position, with possible extensions in Edmonton, Alberta. Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.This position is available as hybrid, 2 days in the office. 7.25 hours/day. 36.25 hours/week. Role DescriptionOur client is seeking an experienced Enterprise Architect to support the execution of our Digital & IT Strategy, divisional plans, and organization-wide Business Plan. This role provides strategic architecture leadership across a diverse environment that includes funding programs, applied research, and revenue-generating services. The architect will map business capabilities, analyze system overlap, define future-state architectures, and guide how our technology ecosystem (including Microsoft Azure, M365, SaaS platforms, data environments, and AI tools) should evolve to support a modern, scalable, and integrated enterprise. Although the role will not be fully hands-on, candidates with implementation or configuration experience within our technical operating environment will be preferred.ResponsibilitiesDevelop current-state and future-state enterprise architecture (Conceptual, Logical and Physical) aligned to AI's strategic, business, and divisional plans. Map business capabilities across funding, applied research, and revenue-generating functions to supporting systems. Identify system redundancies, integration gaps, and opportunities for simplification and modernization. Systems & Platform AnalysisReview the application and system landscape across corporate services, research operations, client-facing processes, and operational technology. Recommend rationalization, consolidation, or modernization approaches. Ensure recommendations align with the Digital & IT Strategy, Data Program, AI Strategy, cloud strategy, and cybersecurity principles. Provide direction on how cloud, SaaS, network, and data-center components should integrate and support enterprise capabilities. Support development of multi-year architecture roadmaps. Provide guidance-not hands-on design-on solution patterns, integrations, and platform alignment (CRM, HRIS, Finance, Contract Management, Data Management and Governance). Engage executives, business units, IT teams, and subsidiaries to validate processes, requirements, and architectural decisions. Lead workshops, discovery sessions, and alignment discussions. Produce architecture documentation, capability maps, diagrams, and recommended future-state options. Provide inputs into investment planning, sequencing, and prioritization. Required Skills and Experience5-8 years of experience in enterprise architecture, business architecture, systems analysis, and IT strategy roles in complex environments.Experience mapping business capabilities or processes to systems Experience supporting multi-team or multi-function environments (public sector or research experience is an asset) Working knowledge of cloud and SaaS environments (Microsoft preferred) Familiarity with Azure architecture, governance, tech stack and integration patterns, as well as Microsoft 365 services (Teams, SharePoint, Exchange, security/compliance features) Awareness of data platforms (e.g., Azure Fabric), BI, and data management and governance practices Familiarity with AI in enterprise settings, including automation, process optimization, LLMs, and agent-based workflows General understanding of how networks, data centers, and enterprise components connect-sufficient to assess architectural impacts (deep expertise not required) Experience with system-to-system integrations, data flows, APIs, ETL/ELT, and evaluating or designing integration patterns across enterprise platforms Experience reviewing systems for overlaps, redundancies, and optimization opportunities Strong ability to engage executives, run workshops, and produce clear documentation Please note that while all applications are appreciated, only candidates selected for interview will be contacted.
