About the RoleWe are seeking a Junior Data Engineer with 1-3 years of hands-on experience working with modern big data technologies. This is a business-critical role that requires strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to work within existing engineering frameworks. The right candidate will be proactive, collaborative, and eager to contribute to complex data initiatives. Key Responsibilities• Develop, maintain, and optimize big data pipelines and workflows • Write efficient code in Scala and build distributed data applications using Spark • Work with Azure cloud services, including Azure Databricks, Data Lake, and Synapse • Support data ingestion, transformation, and processing across Hadoop ecosystems • Write complex SQL queries for extraction, validation, and transformation • Create automated scripts using Shell / Bash for scheduling and data processing tasks • Collaborate with senior data engineers, architects, and AML analysts • Support production processes and troubleshoot data issues in cloud and on-prem environments • Follow engineering best practices, version control standards, and enterprise development guidelines Required Skills & ExperienceMust-Have: • 1-3 years of hands-on experience as a Data Engineer or Big Data Developer • Strong working knowledge of: - Scala - Spark - Azure (Databricks, Data Lake, or Synapse preferred) - Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Hive, Yarn, etc.) - SQL (intermediate to advanced) - Shell scripting (Bash or Linux) • Ability to build and maintain scalable data pipelines • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Excellent communication skills and comfort working in a hybrid team environmentNice-to-Have: • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git, or automated deployment tools • Experience with Python (secondary language) Education & Eligibility Requirements• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related field • Must be legally eligible to work in CanadaWho Succeeds in This Role• Someone with genuine hands-on engineering experience-not theoretical or classroom-only • Someone who can clearly describe previous employers and projects • Someone who understands distributed systems, cloud data platforms, and modern data tech • Someone who is eager to learn and grow in a highly technical AML environment
