OSCO Concrete has been supplying ready-mix concrete to the Saint John region since 1968 and the Moncton region since 2004 using a large fleet of modern, concrete mixer trucks.Job Summary The Quality Engineer will create, optimize and monitor concrete mix designs for a variety of ready-mix products. This position is responsible for working collaboratively to guide and support various operational departments within all Ready-Mix locations throughout the Maritime provinces. The Quality Engineer is responsible to ensure common, consistent quality control procedures across our ready-mix plants, as well as to assist in reinforcing a culture where quality is a primary focus. The ideal candidate must be a problem solver with hands-on leadership skills who thrives in a fast-paced multi-project environment.ResponsibilitiesDesign, monitor, troubleshoot and optimize concrete mixes for all Atlantic ready-mix plants including specialty mixesEvaluate current and potential material suppliers for product performance and compliance with standardsReview technical specifications for pre-bid scope reviewPrepare submittal packages and ensure compliance with job specificationsCoordinate with customers and government bodies for technological advances, alternative methods and continuous improvement models for the departmentTravel throughout the Maritimes to provide supervision, support and training to internal and external customersManage and continuously improve the overall Quality Program for all plants according to CSA and Industry StandardsPlanning and coordinating field / plant and laboratory testing of construction materials including those produced at our Sand & Gravel operationsDevelop repair procedures for defective product which permanently restores appearance, durability and structural capacityModify or implement procedures which maintain high product qualityAdditional duties as assignedTechnical RequirementsBachelor of Engineering degree with a focus in civil, or a similar disciplineAcademic or industry exposure to concrete mix design / materials engineeringProfessional Engineering designation or an Engineer in Training with P.Eng eligibilitySupervisory experience in the concrete industry would be considered an assetKnowledge of CSA, ASTM and relevant provincial transportation standards and specifications Obtain and maintain relevant concrete testing certifications (ACI, CSA, etc.) as needed based on project/business requirementsBusiness RequirementsStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skillsDesire to work well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, and customer-focused environmentWillingness to travel between plants as well as to project construction sites as requiredMust be adaptable to overtime where required to meet project / production deadlinesCultural RequirementsStrong communication and interpersonal skills with individuals of diverse backgrounds & disciplines, including various levels of managementAs a member of the OSCO Construction Group, OSCO Concrete offers a comprehensive compensation package including health and dental coverage, life insurance, RRSP and tax-free savings account options.
