As a Planning Technician I, you will report to the Parkland Management Planning Technician II, and be responsible for delivering permitting and agreement services for parkland activities.

We are looking for an individual who is motivated to make use of innovative approaches that will enable citizens, and local businesses, to access parkland permits and agreements.

  • Intake, review and render decisions on permits issued under the Parkland Bylaw 2202, such as licence agreements, vending permits, and parkland access permits
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to support an integrated approach to permitting processes including elements such as development permits, business licencing, civic and neighbourhood events, and operations and maintenance activities
  • Manage vendor relationships, develop process improvements including but not limited to website development, creation of process and procedural documents related to the various vending classifications and track and monitor vendor performance. Provide timely and responsive permits on a wide variety of vendor permit types
  • Develop and prepare reference documents used by the Unit including but not limited to: Guidelines, 311 Scripts, Standard Operating Procedures and take the initiative to identify process improvements
  • Review licence agreement processes and ensure the life cycle of agreements is tracked
  • Develop a filing structure, database and tracking system for maintenance agreements and other Parkland Management documentation
  • Other duties of this role include regulatory interpretation skills, and coordinating enforcement requirements on parkland
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Completion of two year technical diploma related to the fields of urban planning, landscape architecture, geography, construction engineering or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience
  • Working knowledge of Parkland Bylaw C2202, Edmonton Zoning Bylaw 12800, City policies, and guidelines related to parks and open spaces
  • Knowledge of city planning and permitting terminology, practices, procedures, and standards, preferably at the City of Edmonton, with an ability to interpret regulations and ensure compliance with the City's policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of POSSE, GIS and Google Suite
  • Ability to interpret and analyze spatial information presented in various formats, including a wide variety of maps, site plans, and other geospatial data.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to communicate verbally and in writing with clarity and accuracy while representing the City of Edmonton in a professional, honest, respectful, and safe manner
