Your Opportunity

Our transmission line engineering group is seeking a talented Transmission Line Designer to join our team at locations in Burnaby (British Columbia), Calgary (Alberta), and Waterloo (Ontario). A hybrid work model that allows working from home is feasible.

In this role, you will be involved in various power line projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer/Designer within a dynamic and collaborative team setting. This position offers the chance to learn and progress your career as a transmission line engineer.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the transmission team with engineering and design services for power transmission line projects from concept creation to construction.
  • Conduct design and drafting following industry codes and client standards for overhead transmission projects.
  • Choose routes for overhead power lines.
  • Model and analyze transmission lines and structures using PLS-CADD with LiDAR.
  • Support the project team in developing design documentation, plans, and reports for project design elements.
  • Aid in producing design deliverables through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Participate in site visits as necessary.
  • Attend project coordination meetings and liaise with internal team members and external consultants.
Qualifications
  • Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Familiarity with PLS-CADD software.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Experience in GIS mapping is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of North American overhead power line industry standards.
  • Experience in developing design drawings for transmission or distribution projects.
  • Solid understanding of project management systems.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and in teams.
  • Effective time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Keen on acquiring new skills and advancing your career.
  • Strong communication skills to address project issues with the team and clients.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks while maintaining flexibility in work assignments.

Education and Experience

  • Hold a degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Registered with the Engineering Provincial Association.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in overhead power line design and engineering within utilities, EPC, or consulting organizations.
