Introduction

The Manitoba Government is seeking a qualified Mines and Quarry Inspector (MI3) to fill a position with Mining, Oil and Gas Branch. The Branch includes a team of engineers, geologist(s), auditor(s), technicians, inspectors and administrative staff who ensure compliance with the Mines and Minerals Act and associated regulations.

Conditions of Employment: Must be legally entitled to work in Canada Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5F Driver's Licence. Must be able to travel by air, water, off-road vehicles and on foot to remote locations in harsh conditions. Must be able to be on-call and work outside of the regular working hours. (Typical outdoor setting which may require travel throughout the province) Must be physically capable of performing all duties including: Prolonged walking outdoors and extended exposure to the elements. Must be able to work in an active construction environment, which may require walking on uneven surfaces. Must be physically capable of loading and unloading field equipments such as off-road vehicles and boats. Qualifications: Essential: Post-secondary education in natural resource management or other science disciplines (i.e. Engineering, Geology or Environmental Sciences). An equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience may be considered. Experience in the upstream mining and quarry or construction industry, including the monitoring of mining, quarrying and mineral tenure acquisition activities, application of engineering, geological, environmental and safety standards and practices as it relates to the exploration, development, operation and production from mines and quarries. Ability to prioritize, plan and execute assigned duties in a systematic and efficient manner under limited supervision. Strong computer proficiency with word processing software, email programs, spreadsheet applications and databases. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage potentially high conflict situations effectively. Experience with GPS and GIS applications. Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with the variety of stakeholders. Excellent written communication skills with the ability to create clear and concise documents. Strong problem solving skills with the ability to solve, prioritize, plan and execute assigned duties under limited supervision. Desired: Experience with drone applications and drone data analysis software program. Duties: The Mines and Quarry Inspector (MI3) is responsible for the delivery of regulatory compliance and enforcement programs related to the aggregate, non-aggregate quarry and mining industry. The Mines and Quarry Inspector conducts field inspections and approves conditions and applications submitted by industry with respect to; mine exploration, construction, operation and rehabilitation of aggregate and non-aggregate quarries and mines and advanced exploration projects.
