Seasonal Youth Program Teacher (Summer Program)

VanWest College is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Seasonal Youth Program Teachers for our exciting summer program. As a Youth Program Teacher, you will have the unique opportunity to inspire and educate international students, aged 12-17, while creating a fun and engaging learning environment. This seasonal position will be based at our VanWest College campus, and you will work closely with other educators and staff members.
This is a position for 4-6 weeks between July 2nd and August 9th 2024
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver interactive and engaging lessons for international students, ensuring the curriculum aligns with the program objectives and learning outcomes.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate activities, projects, and games that promote language acquisition, cultural understanding, and personal growth.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and mutual respect among students.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback through various assessment methods, such as quizzes, presentations, and projects.
  • Monitor and address individual student needs, offering additional support and guidance as necessary to ensure their academic and personal success.
  • Supervise students during activities, field trips, and excursions, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and program coordinators to develop and improve curriculum materials, teaching resources, and program content.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other relevant documentation as required by the program and institution.
  • Communicate regularly with students' parents or guardians to provide updates on their progress and address any concerns or questions.
  • Adhere to VanWest College's policies, procedures, and code of conduct, promoting a professional and ethical work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, English, TESOL, or a related field (or currently pursuing a degree in these fields).
  • Prior experience teaching English as a second language (ESL) or working with international students is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of language acquisition theories, teaching methodologies, and classroom management strategies suitable for youth learners.
  • Passion for working with young learners and the ability to create a supportive and engaging learning environment.
  • Strong intercultural and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with students, colleagues, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet the dynamic needs of the summer program, including participating in extracurricular activities and excursions.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve program objectives.
  • Fluency in English is required, and proficiency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Duration: This is a seasonal position for the duration of the summer program, typically spanning 4-6 weeks. Exact start and end dates will be communicated during the hiring process.
