The role of the Pregnancy Support Worker is to provide care and guidance for pregnant women who do not have access to appropriate resources and services that are necessary for pregnancy.

The pregnancy support worker will engage in outreach in-and-around the Boyle Street Community Centre to help isolated women and/or families navigate the pregnancy and postnatal period by providing insight and advice on matters such as infant care, health promotion, life enrichment, breastfeeding, and self-care.

Position Responsibilities

  • Participate in outreach at Boyle Street Community Services and radius, on foot outreach, and van as well as other sites as directed.
  • Utilize outreach methods to provide onsite support for isolated women and families experiencing pregnancy
  • Be prepared to respond to overdoses and other related crisis by following the proper processes and protocol
  • Be actively involved in program components and activities, such as organizing hospital tours, pregnancy dropin, etc.
  • Liaise with community agencies with a view of encouraging their increased support for target populations and service delivery
  • Work in collaboration with other Streetworks team members to provide clients with access to counselling and educational resources that best suit their needs
  • Assist and ensure clients are given guidance on how to access basic needs which include but are not limited to; source of income, food, shelter, transportation, legal and medical services
  • Maintain case management duties by assessing client's needs and developing a mutual service plan while also maintaining proper collection of client records.
  • Perform fetal heart rates, weights, fundal heights, kick counts and other basic health monitoring functions
  • Engage in harm and risk reduction processes when necessary
  • BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings). This includes fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking etc.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 Non GDL license and access to a reliable vehicle
- relevant work experience and/or lived experience is an asset

  • Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months
  • Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course
