43K Wilderness Solutions is looking for a permanent, full‐time Foreperson (Foreperson/ Forewoman) to lead a crew of builders and work under the supervision of the Project Manager in Vancouver Island's most beautiful and remote wilderness areas.
The job will require you to be 100% hands-on in the field, working alongside your crew and lead by example.
This is not an office job, and we guarantee it is unlike any job you have had before We are looking for people with supervision experience and diverse construction knowledge including framing, concrete and metal who also enjoy working in wild places.

The job will require you to work out of town, in camp on long shifts.
Our projects are always different ‐ from helicopter access bridges to trail construction to installing off‐the‐grid buildings ‐ we never do the same thing twice.
A large portion of our projects include working with local communities and local First Nations.
Our current projects are located on the Juan de Fuca Trail, in Cape Scott and Strathcona Provincial Parks and the Great Bear Rainforest.

Responsibilities
- Build to specifications without supervision
- Direct and supervise construction crews and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed based on our dependable results promise, both on schedule and on budget.
- Prepare material takeoffs
- Produce work plans and shortterm schedules
- Prepare daily progress and quality reports for the Project Manager
- Implement Occupational Health and Safety Work Plans and Environmental Management Plans. Nothing is more important than the safety of our crews and the preservation of the wilderness we are working in.
- Liaise with clients, project managers, regulatory authorities and stakeholders when onsite.
- Work within local, remote communities with the utmost respect for them and their unique experiences
- Train and mentor staff, and conduct their quarterly staff performance reviews ensuring we elevate them
Relevant Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years construction experience, especially landscape construction, decks and stairs, concrete, framing, metal and earthworks.
- Experience directing crew and subcontractor daily activities on construction projects.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, specifications and construction documents.
- Experience or ability to work in remote camps.
- A positive attitude and ability to motivate coworkers.
- Backcountry experience, including hiking, camping, backpacking, etc.
- Power tool experience, including chainsaws.
- Understand WorkSafe BC requirements and recognition of hazards.
- Class 5 Driver's License and trailer towing experience.
- OFA Level 1 and transportation endorsement (required for all successful applicants), Level 3 considered an asset.
- Education and certifications are considered an asset but not required.
Job Conditions
- Working in "camp" (tents, yurts, cabins, hotels, vacation rentals). You need a passion for what you do, but also where we work.
- Working on 515 day shifts, in adverse conditions twelve months of the year.

- Driving on gravel roads, pulling small trailers, as well as working in and around helicopters, barges and boats.
