The Opportunity:
  • We have an exciting position available to join a leading global parcel, freight, warehouse, and logistics company in an executive role.
  • The Vice President Operations will have the pivotal responsibility of overseeing the strategic expansion of parcel and freight operations in a company operating in over 40 countries and focused on enhancing its presence in North America.
  • Reporting directly to the President and located in the Greater Toronto Area, this role involves driving operational excellence across diverse divisions and provinces.
  • This high-level leadership position demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of the transport industry and a proven track record in managing complex operational environments.
  • The successful candidate will ensure the seamless execution of operational activities, optimize processes, promote a culture of continuous improvement, and deliver exceptional customer service.

GLS Logistics Systems Canada Ltd. is renowned for its transportation and supply chain services across Canada.

With 65 strategically positioned terminals, GLS offers parcel, LTL, warehousing, and logistics services nationwide.

General Logistics Systems (GLS) is a subsidiary of International Distribution Service, a publicly listed company on the London stock exchange.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive operational strategy aligned with the company's goals.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of a new automated parcel hub in Toronto.
  • Manage a team of senior managers to foster a collaborative culture within operations.
  • Ensure efficient resource utilization to maximize productivity and minimize costs.
  • Implement performance tracking mechanisms and analyze operational metrics.
  • Maintain quality control processes to deliver exceptional service.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and optimize operational effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to drive innovation.
  • Manage the operational budget and ensure financial targets are met.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and safety standards are maintained.
  • Collaborate with vendors and partners to optimize services.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of operational activities.
  • Take on project management responsibilities as part of the leadership team.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations management, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years leadership experience in logistics or supply chain management, including 5 years in an executive-level role.
  • Proven track record in managing logistics operations in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen.
  • Knowledge of transportation operations and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience in driving operational excellence and cost optimization.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
Travel:

Willingness to travel locally, nationally, and internationally as needed.
