Carpenter - Leadhand.

The Carpenter Maintainer Leadhand, reports to the Project Supervisor and is responsible for performing their work in an efficient and timely manner.

The incumbent must adhere to industry standards for installation, repairs, and safety. Decisions on tasks performed by trades will be based on the Red Seal Occupational Analysis. Does this peek your interest? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you

What will you be doing?

  • Conducting and or facilitating field investigations/walk downs of site conditions in consultation with engineering drawings, specifications and related documentation to assist the Project Supervisor with compiling field information to further assist MP&WM Planning Coordinators.
  • Chairing morning start up meetings with assigned trade teams.
  • Preparing time and material estimates for upcoming jobs.
  • Mentoring new staff and apprentices, and contributing to identification of training needs.
  • Providing feedback to the Project Supervisors on individual Trade Team members to ensure positive development and personal growth sustaining the value added proposition.
  • Managing time card entry for all trades in their discipline.
  • Initiating work requests and coordinating repairs with other trades, powerhouse, or design staff.
  • Promoting work in accordance with all company safety and compliance programs, including good workplace housekeeping.
  • Adhering to Workplace Safety and health procedures, WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.
  • Coordinating and assigning maintenance work requests (WR), execution and completion of established PM work load schedules increasing the WL Maintenance overall productivity.
  • Carrying out quality control checks on all work performed.
  • Performing routine maintenance and repair.
  • Ensuring tradespersons in their discipline have the tools, materials and equipment to safely complete their work.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

What we are looking for:

  • Formal training and demonstrated proficiency in the following areas of study: Mathematics, Science and Communications related to the trade.
  • Experience in a wide variety of industrial work environments.
  • Enhance safety culture and organizational excellence through leadership, accountability, communication and process improvement. Specifically, deliver the Whiteshell decommissioning mission safely, more efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be familiar with responsibilities, as described in the Canada Labour Code Part II.
  • Willingness to keep up with new developments in the trade and advancement in technology.
  • Good comprehension skills to interpret drawings and code specifications.
  • Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records.
  • Must be punctual, dependable and safety minded.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand detailed information is essential.
  • Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one's work.
  • Conscientious about accuracy.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Teamwork skills when working on large projects with coworkers.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with mínimal supervision.
  • Physical agility necessary to perform all aspects of the work.
  • Physical stamina to stand for long periods of time, work in awkward or cramped confined locations.
  • Strength and the ability to work at heights on construction and industrial sites.
  • Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs

Experience

  • Must have five (5) years' experience as a qualified Carpenter/Sheet Metal/HVAC Maintainer/ Insulator.

Education

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have completed apprenticeship training or equivalent and be qualified as Carpenter/Sheet Metal/ HVAC Maintainer/ Insulator with an Interprovincial Red Seal ticket.

Security Eligibility Requirement

  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".
