Operation Come Home is an employment, education, and support centre for homeless and at-risk youth age 16 and up.

Our programs focus on what works and what matters to youth, as well as encourage personal growth of everyone as an individual.

Operation Come Home is based in Ottawa, Ontario.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

The employment staff will support clients enrolled in the employment programs at Operation Come Home. The staff will be responsible for employment and social support aspects of the program.

The goal of the project is to engage youth ages 16-29 with employment activities to assist them with reaching their goals.


Reporting Relationship:

This position reports to the Manager of Employment.

Hours:

The hours of work for this position are primarily 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (evenings and weekends when necessary).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in screening and intake assessment of program applicants
  • Determine eligibility based on one or more interview(s)
  • Orient the participants to the program and ensure the participants are provided with the terms, conditions and expectations
  • Provide supports to youth in job exploration, identification of skills, interests, job search, resume and cover letter preparation, cold calling, contacting employers, interviewing, work place assessments and matching, conflict resolution, selfmarketing and sales and instruction on how to approach and attract employers
  • Facilitate training workshops to program participants on job search strategies, resuming/cover letter writing and interview skills
  • Provide youth with group and individual employment supports that will facilitate job search, placement and maintenance
  • Reach out to employers and secure work placement/employment opportunities
  • Monitor work placement progress and provide support to participants and/or employers
  • Assist in outreach and promotion of OCH's programs to job seekers, employers and community agencies
  • Liaise with training service providers and assist in delivery of training activities
  • Ensure that the outcomes according to the contract are met on a quarterly/annual basis
  • Attend job interviews with participants
  • Meet with youth weekly to ensure that their employment action/goal plan has been fulfilled

Other responsibilities:

  • As part of the OCH team, promote support for Operation Come Home in the community, including with other service providers, media, etc.
  • Respond to incoming calls when assigned
  • Attend biweekly staff meetings
  • Anything else that is requested by management

Qualifications:

  • Completion of post secondary education in a related field, such as, social services
  • Two years experience working in a social service setting with a vulnerable population
  • Experience in employment counselling and/or job development
  • Bilingualism in French and English
  • Proof of COVID19 vaccinations
  • A clear Vulnerable Sector police check
  • Valid G license with clear drivers abstract considered an asset
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) considered an asset
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate considered an asset

Location
Duties will be carried out from our office, located at 150 Gloucester Street, Ottawa, ON.

Salary
$47,840 per year

Terms
Temporary, full-time position until April 2023, with the possibility of extension.
