Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician specializing in Electrical/Instrumentation (E&I) plays a key role in ensuring the functionality, readiness, and maintenance of various electrical controls, instrumentation, and monitoring equipment essential for the manufacturing processes at the St Romuald, QC production facility.

The Maintenance Technician - E&I serves as the main point of contact between operations staff and the maintenance team for diagnosing issues related to electrical control and instrumentation equipment, as well as executing repairs, replacements, and upgrades on site.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair diverse electrical control and instrumentation equipment used on-site.
  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks safely.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting various electrical control and instrumentation equipment, such as motors, VFD's, PLCs, MCCs, etc.
  • Identify parts needing repair or replacement for all electrical control and instrumentation equipment.
  • Assist in sourcing and assessing quotations for parts and services.
  • Ensure timely execution of routine PM and inspection tasks and suggest enhancements to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Support the maintenance of Hexion Canada Inc.'s required standards, including ISO, RBQ, SOX, & MOSS.
  • Engage in regular housekeeping assessments and daily tours of production areas to pinpoint areas for improvement.
  • Contribute to quality and customer incident investigations and aid in implementing preventive measures.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and employee training as needed.
  • Contribute to on-site PSM and PHA teams.
  • Provide insights into capital and maintenance upgrade projects.
  • Define project requirements, oversee basic project management, and implementation on site.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  • Directly reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.

Close collaboration with:

  • Production Team
  • Regional Controls/Engineering Specialist(s)
  • Maintenance associates & contract personnel
  • Supply Chain Management
  • May be involved in overseeing the activities of all associated electrical & instrumentation maintenance contract tradespersons and external contract service providers.
Minimum Qualifications

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Proficiency in Electrical and Instrumentation fields.
  • Competency in MS Windows and computerized process systems is essential.
  • Prior experience in maintaining AC and DC Drives, PLC/DCS control systems, instrumentation, and VFD's.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with industrial safety regulations in the local area.
  • Knowledge of electrical and instrumentation codes and standards specific to the area.
  • Ability to specify material and equipment requirements.
  • Prior exposure to maintenance information systems.
  • Proficiency in MS Windows and SAP experience is advantageous.

Education

  • High School Diploma
  • Technical College or Interprovincial Trade Certificate - Electrical/Instrumentation or relevant electrical trade.
  • Plant Requirements
  • Physically fit and capable of working while wearing a respirator and climbing vertical ladders.
  • Aptitude for working at heights or in confined spaces.
  • 'On Call' availability is required for this role.

  • Physical: walking, driving, lifting, sitting, climbing, etc.
  • Aptitudes: Ability to comprehend instructions, perform arithmetic operations, and possess eye-hand coordination.
  • Temperaments: Accepts responsibility, performs duties under stress, adapts to changing situations, and influences opinions.
  • Department Specific: May operate various maintenance-related equipment as needed.
  • Must be Fit for Duty.
