Position summary
In this role, you will provide expertise in seeking funding and grant opportunities, researching needs and writing proposals in areas aligned with Seabird Island strategic goals.
The Proposal Writer will work with the Directors, Chief and Council, various committees, external agencies, and other parties, to provide Seabird Island with background research, community input, applicable legal information, and multiple options to resolving concerns or issues facing the Band and Band operations.
The Proposal Writer will be responsible for researching, preparing, and submitting funding proposals for various projects and programs.They will also be responsible for tracking expected funding opportunities and for ensuring that the Director is kept apprised of the status of all funding proposals.
The Proposal Writer will regularly be tasked with gathering data, soliciting input, and preparing briefings for the ED, Directors, Committees, and Chief and Council.
Through this the expectation will be that all bodies will be provided with the input and information that they require to make informed decisions and choices.

What you'll do
- Support the Directors team to complete a variety of tasks to ensure that they Band accomplishes the goals set by Chief and Council and funding agencies
- Research and prepare funding proposals for various Band ventures
- Seek funding opportunities for current or expected programs and Band Services
- Develop a good rapport with private and public funding sources as well as current or potential business partners
- Prepare petitions for the Directors and Chief and Council to various governing bodies for changes to applicable legislation when needed
- Meet when required with Band Committees and Chief and Council
- Provide regular updates on Band initiatives to the Directors for presentation to Chief and Council as well as to Membership
- Provide reports, statistics, and other information to the Directors based on research
- Conduct membership and employee surveys as requested by the CAO
- Work with the Executive Assistant to the CAO and the Directors Team to ensure that the CAO is adequately prepared for coming meetings and presentations
- Work with the Policy Analyst/Council Advisor and various programs to ensure that Band Policies fall within the applicable guidelines
- Conduct research, data collection, and predict potential impacts such that the Directors can make informed decisions regarding various topics
- Remain informed on all topics involving all departments to ensure that the Directors is not surprised by any incoming information
