DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the safe operation of a Mechanical / Vacuum Street Sweeper;
  • Load and unload equipment and materials as required;
  • Maintain and safely operate assigned tools/equipment;
  • Work safely and cooperatively assisting other classifications;
  • Contribute to meeting the operational objectives of the business unit and HRM;
  • Attend work on a regular basis;
  • Participate in winter works if required;
  • Must be willing to upgrade training to operate winter works equipment;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Must have valid Nova Scotia Driver's License Class 3 with air brake endorsement;
  • Preference will be given to having at least one (1) year of recent related experience operating a street sweeper under a Class 3 license;
  • Must successfully complete HRM Mechanical Sweeper training; provide current certification if conditions are required;
  • Good driving record (Registry of Motor Vehicle abstract may be required before a formal job offer is made).

Technical / Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Able to work independently, and as a team player;
  • Able to follow instructions, and communicate effectively including oral and written communication;
  • Must have good attendance and work record;
  • Working knowledge of methods, materials and equipment usage involved in Road Operations & Construction;
  • WHMIS, CPR/First Aid certification or ability to successfully complete.
  • Capable and willing to work inside and outside in varying weather conditions;

Security Clearance Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check

Permanent, full time
HOURS OF WORK:Monday through Thursday, 7:00am - 5:00 pm; 40 hours per week
SALARY: $25.98 per hour as per CUPE 108 Collective Agreement
WORK LOCATION:3825 MacKintosh Street, Halifax
