Ops Modernization is a collaborative effort between Air Canada's Business and IT teams who are committed to finding modern solutions, tools and technologies that will better support their operational needs and enable their employees to deliver an elevated customer service.


Job description:


The Specialist, Data & Analytics (Ops Modernization) will effectively work as the data stream lead for the Ops Modernization Program.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Strategy & Planning, the Specialist will work closely with Operations stakeholders and the Ops Modernization program team and will become the central hub for all data requirements in the program.

This role will work together with a number of business analysts, oversee the output of consolidated requirements to establish and curate a product backlog, and represent the business stakeholders in the data delivery pod.


Functional Accountabilities:

  • Work closely with Operations and the Program teams to assess data requirements that support the development of analytical components of the Ops Modernization Program.
  • Translate complex business data requirements into pure data requirements, aligned with data governance policies and data architecture.
  • Own the vision, data roadmap and prioritization for the program.
  • Ensure each story has the appropriate acceptance criteria.
  • Gather and manage the product backlog.
  • Evaluate feasibility and best technology fit for data and analytics requests
  • Work as liaison between Data Delivery team and the Ops Modernization Program team to ensure delivery meets business needs.
  • Oversee development stages and progress of the Delivery team.
  • Help conduct user acceptance testing as needed along with business owners.
  • Develop and evolve the Business Data Analysis practice.
  • Mentor and support business data analysts in the program.
  • Use strong analytical skills and support use of data for sound decision making.
  • Understand and document data dependencies and data flow diagrams of the solution developed, depicting source and systems consuming the data, as well as the logical processes and interfaces with other systems.
  • Become the point of contact and reference for knowledge and expertise around data for the Program and Operations teams.
  • Collaborate with other data teams and organizational leaders to identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Prepare presentations & documentation to run scoping and feasibility sessions with business stakeholders and technical experts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Engineering, Computer Science or Business Analytics.
  • 9+ years of IT technology or operations related experience in a large company
  • Certifications in business analytics, such as CBAP (Certified Business Analysis Professional) would be a plus.
  • Track record working with data from multiple sources and willingness to digin and understand the data and to leverage creative thinking to deliver results
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud or Snowflake) and data warehousing
  • Experience working in an Agile team environment
  • Ability to foster teamwork, and to effectively drive crossteam solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements
  • Excellent communication and problemsolving skills
  • Experience leading and facilitating workshops with different types of stakeholders
  • Ability to anticipate consequences of situations and take action to be prepared for potential contingencies
  • Flexibility and resilience to work under tight deadlines and adjust to rapidly changing conditions
  • Ability to notice, interpret, and anticipate others' concerns or reactions and communicate with them empathetically
  • Bias to action in search of business objectives with focus on meeting customer expectations
  • Proficiency with MS Office
