Here's the Scoop – Summary

The Analytical Laboratory Technician will work as part of the Laboratory team to ensure the goals of the department are met. This position is responsible for performing full nutritional analytical testing of assigned products, as well as participating in different scientific research studies. The Laboratory technician will assist in the resolution of routine and non-routine technical problems. This position requires a University degree in Science and a minimum of two years' experience in an analytical laboratory.

This position is based out of our laboratory in Morinville, Alberta, and reports to the Laboratory Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Administer, prepare and analyze samples according to standard procedures or as instructed by Laboratory Supervisor/Manager.
  • Prepare chemical reagents needed to perform routine testing.
  • Perform proximate analysis and operate different analytical instrument; including HPLC, GC, Leco, ICP and other instruments under minimum guidance.
  • Perform instrument troubleshooting, calibration and maintenance.
  • Maintain data and quality control records.
  • Maintain clean and organized lab bench area.
  • Ensure supply inventories are maintained.
  • Assist in development of new analytical methods under the guidance of Laboratory Supervisor/Manager.
  • Assist in the development and practice of a Laboratory Management Systems to obtain and maintain accreditation.
  • Follow and adhere to all given instructions including work procedures, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices and safety requirements for handling different chemicals.
  • Perform other tasks as required or assigned.
Requirements
  • University Degree in Science; preferably MSc in Chemistry.
  • Minimum of 2 years' working within an analytical chemical laboratory, in particular with conducting testing.
  • Strong knowledge of proximate testing (Moisture, protein, fat, etc.) and preferred experience with HPLC, GC, or ICP.
