Job Description

Hatch and Bantrel have formed the Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture (HBJV) to execute engineering and construction on the BHP Jansen Potash Mine Project in Saskatchewan. After successfully completing the Definition Phase Study for the project, the HBJV is currently carrying out the Detailed Engineering Phase for the Processing, Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), and Mining Areas of the 4.5 Mtpa Stage 1 Potash Mine. With a published TIC of US $ Billion, this will represent one of the largest projects and private investments in Canada. The HBJV will use a hybrid of best-in-class new developing technologies and systems as well as the proven HBJV suite of tools to execute this exciting project.

The Civil, Structural & Architectural Field Engineer (CSA FE) for Non-Process Infrastructure (NPI), is responsible for all field engineering discipline activity to support execution of the potash processing facility. The CSA FE reports to the Technical Services Manager (TSM) or Project Field Engineering (PFE) Manager or delegate. The CSA FE provides technical direction to construction engineers and superintendents in a wide range of construction engineering and design functions relating to multi-discipline engineering in an area or to a single discipline on the overall project.

Executes the implementation of the quality activities of all scope or project assignments. Coordinates the project quality program/plan activities associated with one or more functions in engineering, procurement, construction, testing, operations, commissioning, and project close-out. They will work mainly within the Integrated Construction Centre (ICC) platforms to oversee the management of technical queries, non-conformance reports, and other notices when necessary. The CSA FE shall form the link between the Owner (BHP), Engineers of Record (HBJV), and the construction team.

* Please note this position is not eligible for a relocation subsidy or living out allowance. This will be a camp position on 14 days on 7 days off rotation or 5 days on 2 days off. In this full-time permanent role, you will be a champion of diversity & inclusion.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in all training when required.
  2. Review of Contractors Submittals
  3. Process Technical Queries
  4. Perform field Inspections to verify quality and contractor claimed progress.
  5. Sign applicable check sheets upon completion of field inspection.
  6. Conduct Contractors Quality Surveillances and record findings.
  7. Attend weekly Contractor quality meeting.
  8. Issue Non-Conformance Reports
  9. Prepare Field Sketches for Temporary Facilities when required.
  10. Perform walkdowns with the Contractors upon completion of specific field activities and initiate a punch list.
  11. Verify closure of punch items
  12. Review of Turnover Documentation from the Contractors
  13. Review and endorse (or reject) installed quantities issued by the Contractors on a weekly basis.
  14. Review and endorse (or reject) contractor deliverables and reports.
  15. Familiarize and become proficient with the Integrated Construction Centre (ICC) platforms i.e. Digital Tools
  16. Attend site safety walkdowns and promote safety through regular interactions in project meetings/interactions within both the office and site environment. You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your main duties.
Qualifications

A recognized University/B.S. degree in Engineering or Construction Management plus 5 years of experience or 12 years of equivalent industry experience in-lieu of a degree.

Prior experience working with subcontractors.

High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.

Ability to operate with minimal supervision, effectively and work in a fast-paced environment utilizing agile methodologies.

Demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies.

Working knowledge of engineering, contracts & procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, health & safety, environment & community, and risk multi-discipline workflows and interactions for large capital projects.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including communicating with various internal and external stakeholders, including functional managers and discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors, and contractors.

Demonstrated strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative environment for their team.

An ambassador and coach for delivery based on Bantrel and Jansen core values.

Motivates themselves and peers to promote and engage in team-building and relationship-building activities.

You will be expected to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required in line with your main duties.
