JOB PURPOSE:

We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader with a strong background in optical/optoelectronic product development and manufacturing, to join the multidisciplinary development team to support the design and development of advanced optical components, modules and sub-systems to meet our customers' needs. The position reports to the Director of Optical Technology, involves both leading and supporting projects from concept definition, detailed design, process definition and development, test development, prototyping and qualification phases, through to implementation into volume manufacturing.

NATURE OF DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work within a multidisciplinary development team, developing design and process solutions on optoelectronic and microelectronic products. Development projects include, but are not limited to:
    • Telecom/datacom components/modules/subsystems (lasers, detectors, modulators, receivers, amplifiers, transceivers, etc).
    • Sensing / LiDAR optical components/systems.
    • Medical, biomedical, military optoelectronic components.
  • Provide design and general technical leadership using your broad and deep technical capabilities and experience, to help drive development projects and to expand internal expertise in the following areas:
    • Concept design including the selection of key optical and microelectronic technologies and integration strategies.
    • Definition and development of advanced packaging and integration processes for compact, efficient and high performance optoelectronic and microelectronic products.
    • Definition and implementation of processes for active and passive optical alignment and related integration approaches on advanced optical assembly equipment.
      • Processes to include: active/passive alignment, precision epoxy dispensing, UV curing, semiconductor die and microelectronic components bonding and interconnection, ultra precision flip chip assembly, under fill, packaging encapsulation, etc.
    • Product and process verification and qualification requirements, including root cause analysis and associated process optimization.
    • Optical modeling (of free space and guided wave systems) and opto-mechanical tolerance analysis to assess practical performance capability.
    • Work with thermal-structural engineering to assess impact on optical performance through advanced FEA analysis.
  • Support product transition into manufacturing and provide support needed to members of the production team.
  • Support new business development by interfacing with new customers to understand their requirements and generate appropriate proposals and associated quotations.
  • Some travel may be required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate science or engineering degree in a related discipline is required with a minimum of 8 years of direct and relevant experience with Master's degree, 5 years with PhD or 12 years with Bachelor's degree.
  • Expertise in product design and development, from concept to qualification, preferably with experience through volume manufacturing introduction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within and to provide technical leadership within high performance optical product development teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
