QUALIFICATIONS:

Masters Degree in a health related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution.

Three (3) years recent related experience including two (2) years' recent related experience in the substance use or concurrent disorder field.

A minimum of 2 years' experience working with Indigenous Communities, demonstrated through:

  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous health and wellness organizations;
  • Experience integrating Indigenous teachings/knowledge into health services;
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous health services on Vancouver Island.

Knowledge of mental health, alcohol and drug addiction issues, crisis intervention, community dynamics, and relevant legislation.

Valid BC Driver's License.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and clinical skills.
  • Advanced competence in addiction and mental illness treatment within a harm reduction focused model.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills.
  • Good judgment, observation, client assessment skills, and empathy.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative.
  • Knowledge of adult education and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to promote positive change, independence, prioritize workload, and operate a personal computer with Windows-based software.
  • Ability to foster good public relations and operate related equipment.
