ROLE PURPOSE

The cook is responsible for food preparation, finishing and serving of meals, maintaining clean and orderly working areas, assisting with inventory control and stocking of supplies.

Additionally, all kitchen staff share a variety of tasks ranging from dishwashing to organizing work in the absence of the Bedford Manor Chef.


HOURS
40 hours per week; this position requires the ability to work flexible hours based on operational needs.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Perform all duties in relation to the preparation and distribution of food
  • Ensure food is prepared in accordance with dietary requirements of licensing bodies and resident preferences
  • Assist in menu planning for resident meals, and the planning and preparation of food for special functions
  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of work areas, storage, coolers, freezers, equipment, and work surfaces meets all regulatory standards
  • Check, receive and restock supplies, and place or check orders as required
  • Assist in dishwashing, cleaning, and in the dining room as required
  • In the absence of the Bedford Manor Chef, act as First Cook, managing the kitchen and organizing work and staff as efficiently as possible
  • Report any situations that may be considered unsafe or a health risk
  • Attend staff inservice and continuing education programs, and approved workrelated conferences and seminars
  • Safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience in a restaurant setting is an asset
  • Food Safe Level 1 is an asset (Training provided)
  • WHMIS is an asset (Training provided)
  • Flexible, willingness to learn

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to successfully complete Criminal Records Checks
  • Proof of Covid19 vaccination or medical exemption and complete vaccination history
  • Proof of negative Tuberculous test

COMPENSATION
Assisted Living Wage grids starts at $ HEABC wage top-up $2.40 = $21.70.
