About Our Opportunity

Under the direction of the Client Services Supervisor, Client Services, the Tenant Relations Coordinator is responsible for providing social work services that involve a variety of complex social issues and personal situations. The incumbent works in collaboration with residents to identify their needs, attain services where available, and to promote health and safety to maintain the highest possible quality of life for all residents living in public housing.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus five years' experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of health and social service systems, including long term care, procedures for placement in residential care, risk assessment, community development approaches, knowledge of disadvantaged populations, etc.
  • Ability to balance clients' need for services with available resources.
  • Ability to adapt to and work effectively with a variety of situations, individuals, or groups.
  • Working knowledge of desktop applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to relate well to all kinds of people, to build appropriate rapport, build constructive and effective relationships, use diplomacy and tact to diffuse high tension situations comfortably.
  • Interact effectively and collaboratively with clients, Client Service Coordinators, staff, organizations, and other community groups.
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle for work purposes.

Assets:

  • Working knowledge of Property Management software such as Yardi
  • Experience in Tenant Relations

Responsibilities
  • Provide social services for tenants of public housing, to ensure their safety and ability to function independently, and to remain in their home for as long as possible.
  • Work, often in collaboration with other NSPHA staff, with families, seniors and non-elderlies by responding to referrals involving complex issues that may jeopardize their tenancy in areas such as health related (physical and/or mental); home supports; tenant disputes; and addictions.
  • Conduct assessments through home visits, establishing rapport with tenants and their support network to determine the level of risk and need for services.
  • Intervene by providing information about community resources and make appropriate referrals to community resources determined to be the most appropriate to meet the tenant's needs.
  • Develop a case plan with the client to address risk and need.
  • Provide follow-up and re-assessment to ensure services are adequate and effective.
  • Partner and collaborate with community agencies and government programs such as Continuing Care Nova Scotia, Adult Protection, Child Protection, Child Protection, Senior Safety Coordinator Program, etc. as well as family members and other advocate groups when necessary and appropriate.
  • Maintain client records through memos, file recording, and ongoing communication, etc. between Tenant Relations Coordinator and Client Service Coordinators to ensure a unified and effective client service.
  • Participate in case conferences and other liaison meetings when necessary and appropriate.
  • Participate in community development initiatives related to senior and family needs.
