The Biidaaban Healing Lodge is a 12-unit residential treatment program located on the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg formerly Pic River First Nation, which is approximately 25 kilometers from Marathon, ON. We are mandated to provide quality treatment to all Aboriginal and Metis people residing in the Robinson Superior Treaty area. We provide treatment for unresolved trauma stemming from sexual abuse, family violence, adult children of trauma, grief and abandonment and anger solutions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Working as a team member within the counselling unit and in conjunction with the First Nation communities in the area and under the direction of the Senior Counsellor, the counsellor is responsible for:

  • To assess the long- and short-term goals of the clients involved in our programs and to deliver high quality counselling services in a manner that reflects empowerment and respect.
  • To assist in the development of quality treatment plans that promote healing and recovery.
  • To design and deliver quality programs as needed and required to meet the needs of individuals, families and communities
  • To facilitate and deliver educational and therapeutic groups; and to ensure the effective completion of all required forms and documents.

Qualifications:

  • An understanding of the issues that impact First Nation communities and the Anishinabek way of life
  • Experience working with First Nation's individuals, families and communities, and a working knowledge of healing and recovery from a Native perspective.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong communication skills, a working knowledge of computer programs
  • Three to five years counselling experience, preferably in a treatment setting with the ability to do individual and group therapy.
  • Degree in Human Services, Social Work; Psychology or a related field of study (Combinations of education and work experience will be considered.)
