1.0 Permanent Indigenous Youth and Family Outreach Worker

North Region

Effective Immediately


Reporting to the Principal of Student Achievement and Well-Being for Indigenous Education, and in collaboration with graduation coaches and Indigenous Lead Teachers, the Indigenous Youth and Family Outreach Worker will promote a welcoming environment for First Nation Metis and Inuit students and their families with a particular focus on students who have relocated from northern communities.


Location:
North Region (North Bay and Area)


Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Social Service Worker or a related field
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable vehicle

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history and traditions
  • Experience working with children, youth, families and community agencies
  • Experience in supporting school engagement and student success
  • Proven ability to act as a liaison between First Nation communities, community agencies, the home, schools and educators
  • Experience working with adolescent youth with behavioural and or social/emotional issues
  • Knowledge of Ojibwe/Cree language is preferred

Duties:

  • Promote involvement of parents/guardians in the school system and assist the schools in developing parent engagement opportunities for these families
  • Attend meetings at schools to support healthy transitions and crosscultural understanding
  • Connect families who have moved from other communities to local community resources
  • Collaborate with school staff, parents, the Indigenous Education Lead, Mental Health Lead and community organizations
  • Connect students to appropriate board resources
  • Assist the students to eliminate barriers in the way of learning
  • Other related duties as assigned

Rate of Pay:
$55,447.00 to $68,558.00 annually
