Main Purpose and Function


The Policy Analyst is responsible for managing programs and projects on behalf of, and providing support and advice to, staff throughout the City in order to successfully implement the Climate Emergency Action Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy.

Develops new and revised regulations or programs related to Climate Change.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages complex, interdepartmental projects and programs that help the City to achieve the Climate Emergency Action Plan and Climate Change Adaptation Strategy objectives, and help to guide the supporting communications, engagement and mobilization strategy. Examples of programs the Policy Analyst may lead include the Greenest City Grants Program, Women4Climate Mentorship Program, and Greenest City Scholars Program.
  • Undertakes a variety of tasks including best practice research and contextual analysis, develops new or updates climaterelated plans, regulations or programs (which may involve leading internal and external engagement processes and developing business cases).
  • Makes recommendations to management, delivering presentations to public and professional audiences, and tracking and reporting progress.
  • Conducts correspondence with various interest groups, stakeholders, the general public and other departments; consults with external groups; gathers feedback; makes presentations; responds to questions and inquiries.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • A university degree in planning, environmental science, engineering, or related field, preferably at the postgraduate level and considerable sustainability related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Local government professional experience would be preferred.
  • Experience with a range of environmental sustainability issues including climate action

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of research techniques and analysis used in developing policies and regulations governing departmental activities.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, including with the public
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical and narrative data, to prepare comprehensive reports and present recommendations to senior management.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships across departments and with community partners; and ability to manage programs and projects.
  • Ability to meet transportation requirements


The City's COVID-19 vaccination policy is currently suspended and as a result, vaccination against COVID-19 is not required at this time.

However, should circumstances change and the City deem it necessary to re-introduce such policy, you may be required to provide proof of vaccination against COVID-19 in order to be eligible to continue performing your duties.
