BURNCO Rock Products Ltd has a fantastic opportunity for an IT Financial Analyst out of our corporate headquarters in Calgary, Alberta.

You will report to our Director, IT Business Operations and work closely with our internal key stakeholders in IT and Finance.


As an IT Financial Analyst, you will play a crucial role in supporting the financial stewardship of the IT function and bridge the gap between information technology (IT) and financial management within the organization.

You will provide financial analysis to ensure that IT investments align with organizational goals, provide financial justification for technology initiatives, and optimize IT spending for maximum efficiency and profitability.

You will also support the IT Business Operations team with effective IT governance and compliance to manage risks, protect assets, and achieve BURNCO's strategic objectives in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.


What You Will Be Doing

IT Budgeting and Cost Management

  • Monitor and analyze IT spending to ensure alignment with budgets and financial goals
  • Prepare IT budgets, forecasting future IT costs and optimizing resource allocation
  • Support month and yearend activities, including accruals, reconciliations, Actual vs Forecast reporting, and KPI reporting.
  • Lead the annual IT budget planning process covering operational and project costs; headcount; and calculation of IT cost allocations.
  • Identify costsaving opportunities for efficiency improvements within IT Operations
  • Support the IT team in managing technology contracts, creating business cases, estimating project costs, and assigning capital or operational costs according to corporate finance guidelines.

IT Financial Planning, Analysis and Reporting

  • Conduct financial analysis and generate reports on IT operations, projects, and investments including analysis of monthend results and trends; perform variance analysis and analyze business drivers; and preparation of quarterly forecasts.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to understand technology needs and their financial implications
  • Provide insights and recommendations to support IT financial planning and decisionmaking

Evaluating IT Investments and Initiatives

  • Partner with the IT PMO to analyze the financial viability and return on investment (ROI) of proposed IT projects, systems implementations and technology acquisitions.
  • Create financial models and forecasts to assess the costs, benefits, and potential returns of IT initiatives.
  • Provide financial justification and recommendations for IT investments and expenditures.

IT Business Operations

  • As a member of the IT Business Operations team, support the development and execution of the IT Strategy.
  • Identify financial risks associated with IT projects and activities and develop mitigation strategies to minimize financial exposure and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support IT governance and compliance for the IT function to ensure policies, procedures, and practices enable the IT function to operate effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Experience/Technical Skills/Knowledge
years' work experience developing, executing, and improving financial reporting and performance analysis in a corporate (ideally IT) environment.

  • Experience in the Construction Materials industry is an asset
