Role:


The Data Entry Technician is a seasonal, up to 5 month, wage opportunity providing support to the data management component of Alberta's Chronic Wasting Disease surveillance program.


  • Organizing, verifying, and entering individual CWD sample data into the online internal tracking programs of Alberta's Recreational Licensing Management (ReLM),
  • Coordinating and verifying incoming data labels, solving associated data and information problems, and coordinating with data staff in Alberta Agriculture and Forestry.
  • Contacting some individual hunters by phone will be necessary


Additional duties may include backup support for receiving and storing biological samples, and assisting with ongoing wildlife lab activities in conjunction with other staff in the Wildlife Disease Unit.

Two positions are available.

Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • Some high school education and some experience related to biology, data management, or accounting (up to 12 months)

Assets:

  • Demonstrated ability with computers and database software
  • Demonstrated attention to technical detail and organizational skills
  • The ability to read maps and determine geographical coordinate data (UTM, decimal degrees)
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve

Salary:

$22.11/hour to $27.20/hour - Salary under review

Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

Notes:

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

These positions are based in Edmonton working closely with Alberta Agriculture laboratory staff and overseen by the Wildlife Disease Specialist of Fish and Wildlife Stewardship.

This position has an anticipated term of employment from Oct 23rd, 2023 to March 31st, 2024.
