PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Designing and testing formulations for a steady stream of new OTC drugs, Natural Health Products and dietary supplement formulations. Additional responsibilities include specification development, troubleshooting existing formulations, involvement in scale up, and manufacturing /or packaging process improvement. This role will be hands on producing protocols, reports and manufacturing lab scale prototype formulations.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Formulate new solid, semisolid and liquid OTC drug, Natural Health, and Dietary Supplement product formulations.
  • Responsible for authoring and executing Design of Experiment (DOE) protocols and reports.
  • Responsible for authoring Technology Transfer documents including product specification from lab to Manufacturing environment.
  • Proactively work with client and project team, identifying issues related to formulations and provide recommendations.
  • Performs stability/compatibility tests on new formulas; maintain/improve overall product quality.
  • Create acceptable ingredient lists to be used in the formulations according to FDA/INCI and Health Canada guidelines; review formulas/raw materials for compliance with International Guidelines.
  • Participate in scale up and provide guidance for manufacturing and packaging of products following FDA and Health Canada regulations.
  • Evaluate new technologies and products as assigned.
  • Work directly with fragrance and flavor houses.
  • Provide technical expertise and problem solving support.
  • Create and maintain uptodate information regarding created formulations and their trend.
  • Collaborate with Technical services, quality, manufacturing and Packaging on process improvements and cost saving initiatives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BS/MS/PhD in Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related science field.
  • 510 years of experience in OTC, Natural Health Products or Dietary supplements formulation and related scaleup to manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of GMP and FDA regulatory guidelines.
  • In depth knowledge of Product development (practical and theory) for OTC drug, Natural Health Products and Dietary supplements formulation development and technology transfer.
  • Project management experience in a pharmaceutical or healthcare manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in Technical transfer from the lab to scale up.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under demanding and aggressive timelines.
  • Good team player and selfstarter, innovative and comfortable in a multidisciplinary team under defined timelines.
