Reporting to the Team Lead, Corporate Wellness, the Disability Managers provide disability management and care plan services to internal WCB employees who require short term disability, long term disability, or WCB benefits.

The Disability Managers must be able to competently manage all injury types including physical, psychological, and mental health issues arising from both occupational and non-occupational causes.

Disability Managers will build strong relationships with employees, leaders, and external providers to ensure employees have access to appropriate services.

They will promote health, wellness, and early intervention services to the organization.

Your responsibilities:


Educate and support employees and leaders on the process, reporting and documentation required to manage casual sick leaves, or commence a WCB claim, short-term or long-term disability claims, and communicate detailed information regarding entitlement and benefits.

Obtain and assess all relevant information regarding an employee's illness or injury from the appropriate medical providers and determine eligibility and ensuring appropriate medical information has been provided by employee or medical providers to support the benefits, and continuously requesting further information as required until a safe and successful return to work is achieved.

Determine appropriate supports required and appropriate modified work to be offered once notified of an employee's injury or illness.

Work closely with employees, leaders, and health professionals to ensure employees dealing with complex psychological and/or mental health challenges are receiving appropriate care and modified work options.

Coordinate and facilitate medical services and when appropriate, make referrals to providers for treatment.

Make appropriate use of Medical Consultants or Independent Medical Evaluations when required to address the current needs of the individual or other treatment opportunities to assist in a safe and successful return to work.

Develop and implement care plans to support our duty to accommodate the employees' injury or illness.

Identify barriers to progressing treatment and positive RTW outcomes and take initiative and work collaboratively with employee, leaders, and medical professionals to provide options or remove barriers directly.

Act as back up for ergonomic assessments and the Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator.

Your experience and skills:


Degree or related post-secondary education in a health-related discipline, business, science or with at least five years progressively responsible disability management experience.

Experience working with complex mental health issues and psychological claims.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Highly developed negotiation skills in marketing the benefits of modified work to treatment providers, and to internal leaders and their employees.

Demonstrated commitment to providing values based, service oriented and collaborative partnerships.
The ability to preserve confidentiality in sensitive situations is a key component of this position.
Self-directed with the ability to exercise independent decision making.

Excellent time management, analytical and organizational skills are required, and must be able to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities concurrently, while recognizing priorities.

Excellent customer service skills and ability to deal with difficult and stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Possess or working towards an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate with knowledge of health and safety regulations including Emergency first aid, AED & Level C CPR, is an asset.

Experience with Workday or similar HRIS and MS Office Suite required.
