Summary:


The Grade Control Specialist is responsible for working collaboratively with Project Managers and other Company stakeholders to develop and lead Standard General Edmonton's grade control system.

As this division is growing within Standard General, the incumbent will be expected to complete any onsite construction duties including grade checking and labouring.


Responsibilities:

  • Positively participate in the Company Safety and Goal Zero Initiatives and adhere to all safety requirements.
  • Building digital surface for Topcon 3DMC grade control system for constant utilization with our 3D grader.
  • Lead and develop the optimization and business activities related to grade control systems (including GPS grading, training base foremen, and grade persons on how to use RTK [base and rover]).
  • Follow behind the grader to check if elevation is correct.
  • Set up and take down the base station on daily basis at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Develop and design Standard General Edmonton's own internal survey techniques and schematics.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Motivation for selfdirected learning and development.
  • Experienced with technology and computer systems.
  • Ability to learn advanced technology and/or computerized systems.
  • Willingness to seek out and complete various levels of informal and/or formal training (including surveying courses) as necessary and attend training during the winter season.
  • An understanding of grading and/or surveying techniques.
  • Ability to positively and professionally work and communicate with Company stakeholders.

Experience/Education:

  • High school diploma
  • Civil/Construction Engineering Technologist C.E.T. or postsecondary education is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the road construction industry.
  • Experience of working with Magnet Office, Magnet Field or AutoCAD software is preferable.
  • Prior experience or training as a surveyor would be considered an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel to Calgary for short periods of time for job shadowing and training.
  • Ability to drive to various job sites in Edmonton region.
  • Working in adverse weather conditions including heat, rain, and cold.
