Job Summary

The Autoramp Supervisor is responsible for managing day-to-day operations for the Autoramp Compound. The role is critical to ensure a safe and cost effective operation while protecting commitments to customers, along with internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent is accountable for front-line supervision of the unionized workforce and ensures the labour efforts are safe, efficient, productive, and engaged in the operation's success. The role provides feedback and coaching as well as clear directions for the team in order to reach organizational goals.

Main Responsibilities Safety

· Coach and train employees on safe work procedures

· Monitor compliance to rules through efficiency tests including giving proper feedback and taking action on non-compliance and documentation

· Respond to incidents, accidents, and injuries

· Support employees, investigate root cause, and report findings to the Administrative Office Supervisor

· Execute job briefings before every shift by identifying hazards, working conditions, clarifying expectations regarding work to be performed, and continuous encouragement of "Looking out for each other"

· Support and participate in Health and Safety (H&S) committee initiatives

· Participate in Quarterly Safety Summits

· Ensure an environment where employees feel empowered to promote safety and intervene when they have concerns over safe work practices

Operating Efficiency and Customer Service

· Collaborate with Transportation on Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) and plan placements ensuring efficiencies for both parties

· Plan and coordinate with Trackmobile team to strategically place cars reducing respots and maximizing timely offloading

· Collaborate with Administration to plan workload based on inbound pipeline

· Monitor employee productivity by avoiding unnecessary downtime (e.g. employees should know their current task and next task at all times)

· Adapt to changing environment and modify plans when challenges arise to achieve daily goals

· Participate in maximizing assets such as railcars and yard space by ensuring all inbound railcars are unloaded and released within 24 hours, while maintaining inventory control and fluidity within the terminal allowing customers to pick up their vehicles in a timely manner

Staff Management

· Manage employees within collective agreement boundaries and under the guidance of CN's Leadership Values and Competencies

· Communicate goals and policies to create a clear understanding of direction and expectations

· Have formal discussions with all employees on a yearly basis

· Coach, guide, and provide feedback to employees on a regular basis

· Record all discussions related to performance in employee dashboard

· Engage employees for positive results

Cost Control

· Balance daily operating decisions to maximize cost-effective solutions

· Maximize cost per unit and reduce risk of damage and incidents

· Provide recommendations that improve the terminal's overall operating costs

Working Conditions

The role is performed in a combination of office and outdoor environment in various types of weather and environmental conditions. The incumbent must be available to work shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires being available on-call 24/7 to respond to critical incidences. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress. The role requires occasional travel , including overnight stays away from home.

Requirements Experience

Operations

· Between 3 to 5 years of experience in a supervisory role

o Experience managing a unionized workforce*

o Experience working in an operations-based environment

Education/Certification/Designation

· Post Secondary Degree in Operations or Marketing*

· Valid Drivers Licence with clean record

· First Aid and CPR Certification

Technical Skills/Knowledge

· Understanding of safe rail and work practices, and an overall commitment to safety

· Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word)

· Knowledge of Service Reliability System (SRS) and Systems, Applications and Procedures (SAP)*

· Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, and process management
