PROFILE

As a part of Gowling WLG's Conflicts Assessment and Matter Analysis Team (CAMAT), the role of Conflicts Specialist involves assessing and aiding in the resolution of conflicts of interest related to the firm's global operations. The Conflicts Specialist will also contribute to developing and managing ethical screens.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Constructing ethical screens to address conflicts and confidentiality matters;
  • Conducting conflict searches for all Canadian offices of Gowling WLG (Canada), across various sectors, practices, and geographies, using the IntappOpen system;
  • Performing detailed analyses with advanced technology to evaluate new clients and matters against the Firm's databases;
  • Identifying and handling potential issues with European files;
  • Collaborating with the conflicts team and offering support on complex matters;
  • Responding promptly to inquiries and providing recommendations;
  • Assisting in testing and providing feedback for projects related to client onboarding and conflicts assessment;
  • Developing and maintaining knowledge of legal ethics, professional responsibility rules, and conflict resolution procedures;
  • Evaluating ethical conflict and business conflict issues;
  • Undertaking other assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a community college diploma and three years of legal sector experience;
  • Bilingual in French and English;
  • Experience in customer service, information management, or research is advantageous;
  • Interest in technology and proficient with MS Office and database applications;
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills;
  • Attention to detail and accuracy;
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage conflicting demands;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong negotiation and teamwork abilities;
  • Understanding of ethical and legal responsibilities;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
