ABOUT THE POSITION:

This is a full-time position available for an AV Technician at the hotel in Vancouver starting immediately.

You will work closely with the Director of Hotel Services, Operations Manager and General/Sales Manager, as well as other team members.

This role is responsible for the set-up, operate, striking as well as coordination of all technical components of a wide range of events including meetings, conferences, special events and trade shows and are expected to deliver outstanding results.

You are required to take ownership of the service department under the direction of the Hotel Manager.

You will work with the Hotel Manager and Warehouse Manager to ensure all equipment is operational to a standard that is acceptable within our industry.

You will be required (under our training process) to learn the basic functions of the Vectorworks, AutoCAD platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES (but are not limited to):

  • Coordinate and operate all equipment under the direction of the Hotel Manager.
  • Support and facilitate show packs.
  • Maintain relationships with potential and existing clients.
  • Be confident in the operations of all technical inventories.
  • Responsible for building and dismantle of shows.
  • Operate equipment on shows.
  • Consult with Project Manager to determine event requirements and labour expectations.
  • Answer questions from Sales, Project managers and clients as requested.
  • Learn basic Vectorworks "Spotlight" functions
  • Communicate with Warehouse Manager and Operations Manager to maintain the warehouse space efficiently.
  • Preparing, labeling and scanning equipment in warehouse as required.
  • Load/unload gear and equipment to trucks.

OPERATIONAL LEVEL FUNCTIONS:

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, and analytical skills a necessity. Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical audiences.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, AV systems and equipment.
  • Maintain consistent and positive communication with clients, client staff, attendees, speakers and venue staff via internet, phone and in person.
  • Adhere to all venue safety requirements and protocols.
  • Operate delivery trucks (Mini vans to 5 tons) in accordance with company's safety standards/policies.
  • Ability to maintain, repair and properly allocate all the equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Minimum 3-4 years' experience working as an AV Technician in the Conference, Meeting and Special Event Industry. Advanced knowledge of the audio-visual industry and company operations required. Management experience within a corporate or agency environment an asset.

Must be proficient with the following software:

  • Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Adobe Illustrator, InDesign & Photoshop
  • Vectorworks "Spotlight" 2013 (or newer)
  • If unfamiliar with any of the above programs, training can be provided_

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to run multiple simultaneous projects w/ a strong attention to detail and understanding of conceptual meetings and events.
  • Willingness to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as well as travel.
  • Ability to act diplomatically in a professional corporate environment.
  • Must possess the discipline to work onsite and offsite.
  • Communicate information clearly and effectively at the tactical and operational levels, in both verbal and written forms.
  • Be highly organized and an excellent time manager.
  • Be dependable and be an excellent team player.
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid B.C. Driver's License.
  • Scissor Lift License
