Financial Analyst:

Job Summary

The Financial Analyst assists with Enterprise Management System related financial work, year-end processes and the preparation of the annual financial statements and year-end working papers.

Through their work, the Financial Analyst 1 helps ensure financial control and integrity of the CRD's accounting processes.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
People working in this role can expect to be responsible for performing the following duties.

  • Prepares financial accounting entries including account allocations, bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations and clearings.
  • Reviews, analyzes, verifies and reconciles equipment costs and equipment replacement funds.
  • Verifies and maintains accurate recording of the acquisition and disposal of fleet vehicles.
  • Assists with preparation of yearend working paper files, yearend financial statements and compiles documentation supporting closing balances.
  • Liaises with other Financial Services staff to coordinate and facilitate the resolution of issues and support the year end processes.
  • Reviews, verifies and reconciles financial data in preparation for the creation of the financial statements including resolving discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Works closely with CRD's external auditors to ensure consistency and accuracy of reported financial results.
  • Assists in the preparation of Notes to the Financial Statements, supplementary and statistical information and provides supporting graphs and tables as required.
  • Assists in the preparation and production of the District's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, and Annual Report by reviewing draft copies for edits.
  • Ensures accurate processing to accounts in compliance with CRD policies and procedures and to ensure internal financial controls are maintained.
  • Creates, updates and maintains procedural documentation as required.
  • Ensures reporting follows established accounting standards, using judgement to identify potential issues for follow up as needed.
  • Assists with Enterprise Management System related work and upgrades including suggesting and testing possible solutions/improvements and testing integrity after program updates.
  • Assists with the creation of new master data in SAP as required.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
  • Performs and assists with other related duties as required.

Qualifications

University degree in a related discipline such as Business or Accounting and/or enrolment in the CPA program with a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Experience in completing accounting transactions in a computerized accounting environment including general ledger accounts and bank reconciliations.
  • Proficiency and experience with word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), presentation (MS PowerPoint) software and SharePoint.
  • Exposure to CaseWare an asset.
  • Experience with an Enterprise Management System such as SAP.
  • Demonstrated ability in understanding and using accounting terminology and Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to follow detailed and precise instructions; work under pressure and to set and maintain priorities and meet deadlines; be flexible and work accurately with mathematical calculations; type accurately; and use advanced database and spreadsheet skills.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail, problem solve, and perform tasks with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and work well in a multidisciplinary team.
