Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified and skilled individual to fill the Wildlife and Fish Technician position in Lac du Bonnet.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5F Manitoba Driver's Licence (or similar from another jurisdiction).
  • Must be physically able to undertake the duties of the position, including conducting field work in rough terrain and on water, during all seasons and under adverse weather conditions.
  • Must be able to travel to and work in remote locations for extended periods within the Province of Manitoba, travelling by various means such as chartered aircraft, boat, ATV, and snowmobile.
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Postsecondary education from an approved technical school or university with a diploma or degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Biology, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience collecting, managing, and analyzing data from biological field programs.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain good working relationships with a variety of staff and stakeholders.

Desired:

  • Ability to perform basic maintenance on quads, boats, snowmobiles, and trailers.

Duties:


Under the supervision of the Regional Wildlife Manager, the incumbent will be responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing data for the Wildlife and Fisheries Management programs in the Eastern region.

Wildlife programs include surveys related to wildlife habitat assessments and population monitoring, particularly for species at risk files (e.g. caribou). Fisheries programs will include fish stock assessments, fish stocking, creel surveys, and lake sturgeon tagging programs.
