The Opportunity:
The Consultant, Nursing Practice and Clinical Supports reports to the Manager Nursing Practice and Clinical Supports to support and advance nursing practice, IWK professional nursing practice model and strategy.
S/he will provide leadership and support to assist nurses within the health centre to optimize scope of their scope of practice and resolve nursing professional practice issues (unit or program specific issues and/or Health Centre Wide issues).
The consultant provides support to nurses, other clinicians and interdisciplinary teams in the development and integration of health centre policies and documentation practices.
S/he maintains an awareness of trends and issues within IWK and the health care system that pertain to professional nursing practice and the care of patients and families and associated support for practice and works collaboratively with Patient Safety and Risk to promote a culture of safetyHours of Work:
Day shift, 37.5 hours/week, Hybrid working environment 50% from home / 50% in office
Your Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required.
- Master's degree required. Applicants currently enrolled, or intending to enroll in a Master's program may be considered based on their anticipated completion date.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia required.
- Minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience required.
- Current successful completion of a Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada Basic Life Support Level (BLS) Program within the last 12 months, or successful completion of a BLS Renewal Challenge Certificate, required
- Previous experience engaging, leading, and managing project work groups required; working respectfully and collaboratively to build consensus
- Demonstrates understanding of the provincial legislation that regulates nursing practice in Nova Scotia and the Codes of Ethics and Standards of Practice that guide and support nursing practice.
- Demonstrates understanding of the definitions, policies, and approval for optimizing the nursing scope of practice (care directives and beyond entry level competencies (BELC's) and applies knowledge in different practice settings.
- Demonstrates understanding of the definitions for policy development and policy template
- Demonstrates ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with groups and individuals
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict constructively and respectfully
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with individuals and groups (written, verbal & non
- Previous Nursing Council experience and/or experience with other professional committees.
- Demonstrates strong problem solving, critical thinking skills, and decisionmaking skills
